Citizens announce "hard hand" against mafia squatters, narco-rings and vandalism in Cartagena (17/05/2019)

"We want to convert Cartagena in less than two years into a municipality free of mafia occupation, narco-ops, and to reduce exponentially the vandalism and the attacks against the natural, cultural and urban heritage", said the candidate of Cs today. the mayoralty of Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

The Liberal spokesman has committed to launch before the end of the year the Plan for the Protection of Coexistence and Neighborhood Security against illegal occupation and narcophones, something that already proposed during the legislature without getting the support of PP, PSOE, MC and Podemos.

In addition, Cs will create special units in the Local Police to protect Cartagena from the mafia occupation and irregular street vending.

"For more than three years we have been denouncing a situation that has spread throughout the municipality (Casco Antiguo, La Aljorra, Los Nietos, Isla Plana, La Palma, or neighborhoods such as San Antón, Barrio Peral, Virgen de la Caridad, La Concepción, among many others, thanks to the abandonment of functions and the cowardice of PP, PSOE and MC ", Manuel Padín denounced that he remembered that what happened in the area of Serreta," the legitimate tenants had to move pressured and frightened by some of the people who came to live without authorization and with anti-social attitudes, despite their efforts, the complaints of our neighbors did not find the evidentiary weight or the judicial support that was required so that the police could act with force ".

Precisely, the liberal plan includes an Office for the Defense of the Rights of Neighbors Affected by Illegal Occupation, as a body in charge of ensuring security and neighborhood coexistence.

This office would have a monitoring unit against illegal occupations linked to specialized police groups to coordinate surveillance actions and instruct the administrative files that accredit the facts contrary to the ordinances in terms of coexistence and citizen protection.

"In this way we centralize the information, we advise those who are suffering this trance, and we consolidate the evidence for the relevant judicial processes protecting at all times the identity of the complainants so that they can do it without fear of reprisals", explains Manuel Padín.

Vandalism

Citizens will promote this year the drafting of an ordinance of social coexistence and for the prevention of vandalism and antisocial behavior, as it has been promoting for years, with a standard ordinance, the Spanish Federation of Municipalities (FEMP).

"Although it seems incredible, Cartagena does not have any legal tool that allows the Local Police to act on their own in many of these situations, nor can we demand compensation for the damages to the offenders or subsidiary to the parents, legal guardians or have legal custody if it is minors, the money has to leave all Cartagena, because no one at the City Council has been concerned about establishing a municipal legal framework, "explained the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

"With the new ordinance, after assessing the damages, it will be easier for the offender to face their irresponsibility", says Manuel Padín, "it is not a panacea, there is a lack of actions in education and values, the fight against vandalism requires lines of comprehensive action, educational, preventive, and awareness campaigns, but a tough sanctions regime is also necessary ".

According to the spokesperson of Cs, "we want to recover our streets, parks and squares as meeting spaces, so we will promote awareness campaigns in advance".

The trigger for this initiative.-Recognizes Cs- were the attacks against the nativity scene in Santa Lucia in December 2018, "since then the incidents in municipal cemeteries, in archaeological sites, in protected buildings, in some political offices have not stopped increasing. , against the systems of defibrillation, "only the burning of containers in 2016 cost us 90,000 euros, and between 2017 and 2018 220,000 euros in amount," says Padín, "a year we go a million euros just to fix what destroys vandalism.
