On Monday, May 6, voting on Participatory Budgeting in schools in Cartagena began this 2019. The José María de Lapuerta School has been in charge of inaugurating this year the electoral process, which will run through 11 schools and institutes of the municipality during the week.

On Friday, May 10, the results of the voting will be known.

The Councilor for Decentralization and Citizen Participation of Cartagena, Juan Pedro Torralba, said that this process "is the basis for carrying it out throughout the municipality.

I think it is enriching for young people to learn and know how to work in the City of Cartagena. "

The mayor has seen firsthand how the children have lived the day, both those who have voted and those who have been at the polling stations.

One of those in charge of telling all that is happening at the José María de Lapuerta School is Alicia García, journalist and discloser of the Participatory Budgeting Group 2019 at the José María de Lapuerta School.

This student of the center has been in charge of informing about the process to her classmates and of collecting all her impressions during this election day.

"I ask them if they are interested in voting, how many times they have voted in their life or if they would like this to be repeated.

They are responding to me that they like it a lot and that it is very fun to vote, which is very cool ".

In addition to her role as a journalist, Alicia has been responsible for explaining before this voting day to her classmates what the Participatory Budgeting process consists of.

Over a period of time, the Promoter Group collected proposals from children from the center to improve school facilities.

Once all of them were collected, the members of the Promoter Group responsible for collecting the initiatives classified them, together with municipal technicians, as possible and not possible, depending on the feasibility of the space and the possibility of work.

Finally, there have been 6 proposals to vote at the José María de Lapuerta school: an awning for the patio, a new public address system, mirrors in the bathrooms, air conditioning for the auditorium and the computer room, a fence for the patio students of 3 years of Infant, and computers and tablets for classes.

Voters must choose 3 of them.

The tutor of 5th Pepa García, in charge of the promoter group of this center, affirms that a total of 725 students have the right to vote in this school.

"At the polling stations we have a chairman, two members who are in charge of the electoral census, and an intervener who is taking care that the whole process is correct."
