The Rector's Team and the Management of the Industrial School meet (22/03/2019)

On Thursday, March 21, a meeting took place between the Rector Team of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and the Directorate of the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering, with the aim of trying to find solutions to certain dependent services of the Rectorate that need introduction of a series of improvements to be able to provide a better service to the students, faculty and administration and services staff of this university center.

The Director of the Industrial School requested this meeting from the Rector in view of his concern about the need to seek a response to a series of proposals that he has been raising in various aspects, which are very necessary since this university center brings together more than 40% of the students enrolled in this university and therefore it is about needs that redound to the benefit of an important part of the university community.

This meeting has been attended by most members of both teams, in order to try to find solutions to all these issues based on the proposals raised from the School of Industrial Cartagena.

This meeting was coordinated by the Vice-Chancellor for Teaching Staff, Luis Javier Lozano, and the Director of the School of Industrialists, Patricio Franco, and in it they were accompanied by the Vice-Rector of Information Technology, Mathieu Kessler, the Vice-Chancellor of Campus and Sustainability, Marcos Ros, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Organization, José Luis Muñoz, the Vice Chancellor for Students, Sergio Amat, the Manager, Isidro Ibarra, and the General Secretary, M. Carmen Pastor, on behalf of the Rectorate, and the Subdirector of Chief of Studies and Infrastructure, Julian Conesa, the Deputy Director of Educational Quality, Francisco Ortiz, the Deputy Director of Planning and Academic Coordination, Antonio Guerrero, and the Deputy Director of Institutional Relations and Employment, José Hernández Grau, by the School of Industrialists.

"We need solutions such as a more agile response to the needs in terms of computer services and infrastructures, the increase in the number of sub-directors for the Industrial School, improvements in the structure and conditions related to the staff and faculty that performs its functions in this center, and other diverse questions all directed to the promotion of the quality of the services that we offer to our students ", explains Patricio Franco, Director of the Superior Technical School of Industrial Engineering of Cartagena.

Among other issues, the Director of the School of Industrialists has asked the Rectorate to provide their support in the requirement of enabling exclusive parking areas for the university community and with sufficient parking spaces as a step prior to disregarding the parking area of ​​the Plaza del Hospital for the works of the Roman Amphitheater, and for this purpose it has proposed that before the parking buildings planned be built on the corner of the wall or in the northern area of ​​the Industrial Building, which is enable a parking lot for the university community in the vicinity of the Security Park accompanied by a shuttle service, or else the campus will be closed for exclusive use by the university community from Los Habaneros to Gisbert Street.

Among the requests transferred by the Director of the Industrial School, medium-long-term proposals are also included, such as the construction of an annex building for use as an Industrial Classroom, for which a modern building has been proposed that can be easily distinguished from the constructive style of the Old Royal Marina Hospital that has communication with the latter in all its plants and with the last floor reserved to expand the Museum of Engineering, Technology and Industry (MITI) of the School of Industrial UPCT, also serving to facilitate accessibility to the museum and the provision of new emergency exits.

"In our center we need more teaching rooms because every year we complete practically all of the places we offer in our undergraduate degrees, and in order to implement new degrees, it is essential to have more teaching rooms", explains Patricio Franco.

The Vice Chancellor of Teachers has commented that this meeting should serve to try to regain the confidence of the School of Industrialists in the management of the Rectorate, and all the participants have agreed that the background of the meeting should be in trying to get the Improvement of the relations between both organs.

On Thursday of next week a second meeting will take place to continue addressing the list of specific needs and proposals that had been transferred by the Management of the Industrial School.
