45 students of the Popular University travel to Úbeda and Baeza (11/03/2019)

The Popular University has made a cultural trip to Úbeda and Baeza, cities that were declared Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity by Unesco in 2003. The footprint of some of the most innovative and influential artists of the XVI century can be admired in these two cities in between of a "sea of ​​olive trees".

Úbeda and Baeza reflect in their morphology the three evolutionary phases that have marked especially their formation process: the Hispano-Muslim past, the medieval-Christian city and the important Renaissance reforms, without forgetting the archaeological substrate that goes back to the Bronze Age .

The Popular University carries out interesting cultural, environmental and photographic routes and programs monthly free of charge.

Along with them are cultural trips with the aim that students can learn about the cultural heritage of some of the Spanish cities as well as those of greater European heritage.

Last weekend 45 students from the Popular University traveled to Úbeda and Baeza and made guided tours.

ÚBEDA

Úbeda has a large number of palaces and Renaissance temples full of history where Francisco de los Cobos was built the Sacred Chapel of Salvador as a pantheon attached to his palace in the Plaza Vázquez de Molina surrounded by other palaces of the time.

They visited the Old Jail, the Water Synagogue, the Pottery of Tito, the palaces of the Marquis of Mancera and that of the Dean Fernando Ortega, the old Town Halls, the Convent-Museum of San Juan de la Cruz, the churches of San Pablo and San Jorge, the Basilica of Santa María de los Reales Alcázares.

BAEZA

Baeza with its sea of ​​olive trees and its great cultural heritage with its impressive Plaza de los Leones, also known as Plaça del Pópulo, where you can find the buildings of the Carnicerías, Audiencias y Escribanías Públicas, the Arco de Villamar and the Puerta de Jaén .

Highlighting in this visit places like the Seminary of San Felipe Neri, the Consistorial Houses, the Old University where Antonio Machado taught, the Jabalquinto Palace, the Fountain of Santa María, or the Cathedral.
