Women's Day activities begin with the exhibition'Esas Grandes Desconocidas' (08/03/2019)

The activities of Women's Day this March 8 have begun at 10 am with the opening of the exhibition 'Those Great Unknown People', organized by the Conservatory of Music of Cartagena and the councils of Equality and Youth of the City of Cartagena, act who has attended the councilman of Equality, David Martinez.

The exhibition, which is located in the main hall of the Auditorium and Conference Center El Batel, reveals the lives of 15 great women performers and composers and focuses on showing the historical journey from the Middle Ages to the post-romanticism, which revolutionized the world of music and that have been invisibilizadas throughout history despite being key in the history of music.

Eduardo Molero, professor of history of the conservatory and musicologist, has been in charge of preparing the texts of the exhibition and of selecting these 15 women, although he affirms that many more have been hidden throughout history.

It is intended to rescue from silence these female figures who have been deliberately excluded from the history books that were not spoken until the end of the 20th century, such as Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179), Maddalena Casulana (ca. 1540 / 1544-ca. 1590), Francesca Caccini (1587-1640), Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677), Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665-1729), Corona Schröter (1751-1802), Nannerl Mozart (1751-1829), Maria Theresa Von Paradis (1759-1824), Fanny Mendelssohn (1805-1847), Clara Schumann (1819-1896), Soledad Bengoechea Gutiérrez (1849-1893), Amy Beach (1867-1944), Alma Mahler (1879-1964) , Nadia Boulanger (1887-1979) and Lili Boulanger (1893-1918).

The string quintet 'Lacrime di sangue' composed by Estrella Byrne and Gemma Sanchís on the violin, Paula Prendes with viola, Alberto Arques on the cello and Ernesto Mateo on the double bass, performed works by these composers with arrangements made by Eduardo. Fenoll.

As of March 12, it will be possible to visit the Exhibition Hall until the 24th, from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and then, from March 27 to April 9, at the Regional Assembly Building of Murcia, with visiting hours from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
