Between Strings and Metals celebrates its VI Extraordinary Concert on the occasion of Women's Day (06/03/2019)

On the occasion of International Women's Day this coming Friday, March 8, Entre Cuerdas y Metales celebrates its Extraordinary Concert, which this year celebrates its sixth edition, in which the composer Clara Schumann will be honored, as well as inaugurating her exhibition 'Esas Grandes Desconocidas', where the life of 15 great women composers is revealed.

The Contest Between Strings and Metals of Classical Music, organized by the Councilors of Youth and Equality of the City of Cartagena and the Conservatory of Music of Cartagena, is aimed at young interpreters in the Region and celebrates its XXII edition this year.

In these 22 years, this contest has contributed to the discovery of young talents of music, who develop, today, an important musical career inside and outside our country.

In addition, it has served as an instrument for the promotion of classical music among the youngest.

EXHIBITION: 'THOSE GREAT UNKNOWN'

The exhibition, which will open in the Exhibition Hall of the El Batel Auditorium at 10.15 am on Friday and which can be visited from March 12 to 24, focuses on showing the historical route from the Middle Ages to the post-romanticism recalling to those women who were key in the History of Music, who apart from interpreters have also been composers.

It also aims to rescue from silence some of those female figures representative of the world of music who were deliberately excluded from history books, and who have not spoken about it until well into the twentieth century, such as Hildegard von Bingen (1098-). 1179), Maddalena Casulana (ca. 1540/1544-ca. 1590), Francesca Caccini (1587-1640), Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677), Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665-1729), Corona Schröter (1751-1802) ), Nannerl Mozart (1751-1829), Maria Theresa Von Paradis (1759-1824), Fanny Mendelssohn (1805-1847), Clara Schumann (1819-1896), Soledad Bengoechea Gutiérrez (1849-1893), Amy Beach (1867- 1944), Alma Mahler (1879-1964), Nadia Boulanger (1887-1979) and Lili Boulanger (1893-1918).

The string quintet formed by Estrella Byrne and Gemma Sanchís on the violin, Paula Prendes with viola, Alberto Arques on the cello and Ernesto Mateo on the double bass, performing works by these composers with arrangements made by Eduardo Fenoll will perform at the opening.

The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and then, from March 27 to April 9 in the Building of the Regional Assembly of Murcia, with visiting hours from Monday to Friday, from 9 : 00 to 14:00 h.

On March 27 will also take place in the Regional Assembly, at 20:00 h.

the Conference 'The Great Oblivion: Women and Women in Music' by Eduardo Molero, musicologist and professor of Music History at the Conservatory of Music of Cartagena.

VI EXTRAORDINARY CONCERT

This past Tuesday, March 5, the rehearsal took place in the Conservatory of Music of Cartagena for the VI Extraordinary Concert that more than 400 young people could enjoy and that will be celebrated also this Friday, March 8 at 20.30 in El Batel, counting on the solo performance of violist Ana Mba Flores.

This year the composer Clara Schumann, best known as an interpreter, one of the most reputable and best-paid pianists of the 19th century, will be honored, performing her work 'El Trío op.17' by arrangement made by Ginés Martínez Vera for Orquesta, composer recently awarded with the gold medal in the prestigious Global Music Awards.

45 musicians are those who will form part of the staff of the Cartagena Symphony Orchestra to perform this concert under the baton of Director Leonardo Martínez Cayuelas, its titular director.

The Orchestra has launched in collaboration with the City of Cartagena an annual series of concerts, apart from the already known extraordinary between strings and metals, taking a step towards the creation of a stable symphony orchestra in our city composed of the best musicians , which will present a continuous offer of concerts to an audience increasingly interested in classical music.
