Citizens qualifies the Observatory of Industry 4.0 as a "historic opportunity that Cartagena should know how to take advantage of" (06/03/2019)

- Cartagena is one of the largest urban centers in Spain with less capacity for innovation, with fewer qualified human resources, and with the lowest level of intensive employment in knowledge and high technology, according to a recent report by the BBVA Foundation

Cartagena, Wednesday, March 6.

The study 'The functional urban areas in Spain: economy and quality of life' of the BBVA Foundation qualifies Cartagena as one of the major urban centers with less capacity in innovation and development, being the fifteenth city with the worst score despite its clear profile industrial with the Valley of Escombreras.

Specifically, it is detailed that Cartagena presents an urban area with a low availability of qualified human resources and research systems with low impact, generation of intellectual property assets and low shares of intensive employment in knowledge and high technology.

On the other hand, the report highlights that Cartagena is one of the populations with less artificial green areas and urban trees per square meter.

"Everywhere you look, all the research and reports present negative indicators for Cartagena and confirm that the progress gap with other cities of similar population increases dramatically, we grow, but at such a low rate that equating to the national average is done every the most difficult year ", said the spokesman for Citizens, Manuel Padin, which in this sense considers an" unprecedented milestone "the implementation of the Industrial Observatory 4.0 that is driving the UPCT," a historic opportunity to begin to correct the devastating result of reports like the BBVA Foundation. "

After a meeting with the vice-rector of Innovation and Business, Alejandro Pérez, and the deputy director of Planning and Academic Coordination of the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering, Antonio Guerrero, the spokesman of the liberal party in Cartagena has learned that it is expected that early April, along with the Institute of Development of the Region of Murcia (INFO) will present the Industrial Observatory 4.0 that will have a Chair associated and the implementation of a Master linked to this content.

For Manuel Padín, "it is vital that INFO understands that this Observatory has to have a regional scope, not limit itself to a regional study object as it was initially considered, to have its operations center in Cartagena, and to bet with an important initial investment above 100,000 euros to generate an unstoppable inertia ".

Industry 4.0 Chair

Citizens have learned that the 4.0 Industry Chair will seek as strategic objectives the substantial improvement of the competitiveness of SMEs and stimulate growth, innovation and the consolidation of this business fabric.

Observatory 4.0 of the Region of Murcia (O40), promoted by the UPCT, will be the backbone of this chair and will determine the degree of implementation of 4.0 technologies in the Region so that a battery of recommendations can be established to improve their insertion progressive

The main business training tool that will act in the technological training 4.0 of the engineering teams will be the 'Master of Industry 4.0'.

Manuel Padín has ensured that "this strategy marries perfectly with the political objectives of Citizens and we will promote and support it firmly".

For the liberal spokesman, "Cartagena is the municipality of the Region that is most interested in this initiative as we are talking about promoting development in sectors such as Agri-Food, Water, Environment, Logistics, Transport, Energy, Manufacturing, Naval or Chemical" .

Industry 4.0 will also promote the dissemination of these technologies in areas that directly affect the quality of our neighbors such as tourism, health and habitat.
