The Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS) has begun emergency works to repair the after-transfer channel of Campo de Cartagena, an essential infrastructure through which the Tajo-Segura water flows, and which was seriously damaged during the successive episodes of torrential rains last November.

The president of the CHS, Mario Urrea, visited this morning the works accompanied by the delegate of the Government in the Region of Murcia, Diego Conesa.

The works that are being carried out have an amount of 1.3 million euros and consist of the extraction and transfer to landfill of trawls, sediments, brush and debris deposited inside the channel to replenish the operation of the channel and recover the functionality of the drainages;

the replacement of affected channel cashiers and the reinforcement of eroded channel losses;

the recovery, repair and expansion of the transversal drainage works to provide better relief to runoff;

and reconstruction, sanitation, profiling, and protection by gabions and stabilization of unstable embankment slopes susceptible to collapse in the canal.

The Canal de Campo de Cartagena has its origin in the La Pedrera Reservoir and ends in the Road of the Guide, near Cartagena, and has a total length of 64.28 kilometers.

A part of the infrastructure, especially its last 30 kilometers, was seriously affected by torrential rains and runoff in November.

Thus, damage caused by overflows of the riverbed in many sections, such as the main channel, deteriorated from gate T-6 (Torre Pacheco) to gate T-8 (El Albujón), immediately upstream of the dam, is being repaired. Fuente Alamo drive.

Also, the CHS works on improving the cross drainage of the Canal, diverting the Rambla de los Infiernos to the Rambla de las Colonias, expanding the drainage capacity of the work of the latter under the Canal and adapting the same ravine downstream .

Similarly, the drainage capacity of the work on the Rambla de La Señora will be improved.
