The mayor of Citizens in Cartagena, Ana Rama reported today that her group has proposed for the I Municipal Plan against Gender Violence, the incorporation of a set of measures to improve early detection of sexist violence in the municipality.

"Work is underway since September 2017 in this Plan that must be approved by the Plenary and still not go ahead when there are only three months left for the end of the legislature and despite the fact that it was announced that it would come into force in 2018," the councilor informed. Cartagena Cs who explained that Cs has contributed "a package of actions that aims, among others, to better optimize the response of the City of Cartagena in those most vulnerable profiles: women over 60, those who suffer a cultural barrier or those who live in a situation of extreme exclusion ".

The council wants the future plan to combat gender violence include a specific program for Senior Centers, strengthening the role of Social Services and the creation of the figure of intercultural mediators in these departments.

For the mayor of Cs, "it is important that our social workers increase even more the training for the early detection of cases of sexist violence, this is already contemplated in a general way the draft of the presented plan, but we want to deepen and that we attend to the more vulnerable profiles so it is convenient to promote a training program for the early detection of Gender Violence in the Telecare service and in the Home Help at the City of Cartagena.

In addition, Rama believes that it is essential "to further develop the participation of women at the municipal level, strengthening women's networks to avoid isolation and also increase the training of local police officers so that they are more prepared to face a service in cases of sexist violence pending the creation of a specialized group;

we must remember that almost 80 percent of women who suffer some type of aggression of this type do not report it. "

Citizens asked at the Equality Council yesterday for the state and regional contribution that Cartagena will receive this year and the use that the City Council will make of it, "they told us that our City Council has already confirmed 39,000 euros from the State, and more than 155,000 euros of the Community through the Regional Pact signed by CS that will be destined fundamentally to expand the staff of the Center of Specialized Care for Women Victims of Violence (CAVI) including a social worker and a psychologist.

Pioneering application against sexist violence

Among the proposals of Citizens highlights an application of help in cases of sexist violence, "we believe that this application, which allows sending help messages, forward the location, make the call to 016 and activate the microphone to record the conversation automatically and with the black screen, could begin to be promoted and implemented in a pioneering way and through the City Council in our municipality to test its operation and results.

This idea was the winner of the 1st Technological Ideas Competition for Gender Equality held by the School of Telecommunications Engineering of the UPCT.

As for the Equality Plan, "we are waiting for the draft to arrive and that the deadlines for allegations open in order to present our proposals, among others, municipal measures to combat the wage gap in its broadest sense, inside and outside the City Council", Rama holds.

In addition, Ciudadanos wants to continue developing the Protocol of Collaboration and Coordination between the State Security Forces and Corps and the Local Police for the Protection of Victims of Gender Violence, led by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and that was promoted by Cs in Cartagena, "we want to monitor if Cartagena is fully installed in this protocol, as we requested in the Plenary," says Rama.
