La Milagrosa opens as the first cognitively accessible building in the Region (30/01/2019)

This Wednesday, January 30, the building La Milagrosa, where services are located several councils, social services and the ADLE, has been released as the first building in the Region of Murcia accessible cognitively.

These actions have been carried out by the Department of Social Services of the City of Cartagena in collaboration with the Foundation SOI, ASTUS and ASIDO within the Municipal Plan of Disability 'Cartagena for all'.

The inauguration was attended by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, as well as the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, and the Councilor for Culture and Equality, David Martínez, who made a tour of the facilities guided by the young people of the foundations involved. in the project.

The mayor stressed that we must continue to include in the political agenda cognitive accessibility and its importance in citizenship, because, until today, the building was very confusing in terms of the situation of its dependencies both to request information and to request any service.

This is why the facilities have been refurbished to adapt this public space in a clear and visual way.

"In recent years, the City Council has taken many actions to adapt public services but we must continue to improve," declares the mayor, "so this day means a further step in these actions and that this reform in La Milagrosa is our letter of introduction to the Region and to the world that Cartagena is working to achieve full inclusion in all senses.

The guided tour has taken place on the three floors of the building, which are now differentiated by colors and in which each door is numbered and named according to its usefulness.

They have also followed patterns of non-sexist language in the signs, posters and pictograms with the help of the Department of Equality.

To carry out the reform plan, a team from the SOI Foundation, headed by Joaquín Barberá, analyzed the situation in which the building was located and those that have required action by the Government.

Cognitive accessibility means that everyone, regardless of our abilities, has the same possibilities to access all dependencies in equal conditions and use resources equally.
