Citizens will evaluate the political support of the El Gorguel project in the next regular plenary of Cartagena (29/01/2019)

"I believe that the region of Cartagena will never have a better opportunity than this one to take advantage of all its port geostrategic potential and this is also understood by the APC, CROEM, COEC, FREMM, IEE, the Chambers of Commerce, UPCT, and ultimately all the exporting and importing companies in the area, but without political support there will be nothing, so we decided to assess the level of support that this project has today in the next ordinary plenary, "said the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena today

Ciudadanos is favorable to the construction of the container terminal that the Port Authority of Cartagena wants to build in the El Gorguel cove, provided it is subject to a detailed study from the point of view of its socioeconomic profitability and return to society with a global vision of the entire Spanish port system and therefore the transport and future economic development of its 'hinterland' and also to obtain all the environmental permits and authorizations required by current legislation.

For the orange formation, the protection of the environment must be put before the construction of this or any other infrastructure, "more if we bear in mind that, in this case, it would affect the Sierra de la Fausilla, environmentally protected by the ZEPA declaration, LIC and Red Natura 2000, and that among its fauna and flora are several endemic species in serious danger of extinction ".

"If all these studies are favorable and the required protection and compensation plans are established and permits are obtained from the Ministry of the Environment and the European Commission, we see no reason not to bet on El Gorguel because, if viable, we understand that this project may be the most important and revulsive at this time for Spain and the Region of Murcia, assuming, together with the ZAL of Los Camachos, a radical transformation of our socioeconomic profile with tens of thousands of associated jobs and annual millionaire benefits, " explained the spokesman of Cs Cartagena that reports that at this moment "pass over our coasts more than one hundred million containers, the possibilities of the project, considered the most productive investment possible for the Region, are too positive not to try" .
