The IES Isaac Peral becomes the stage of the LV Mathematical Olympiad (18/01/2019)

The IES Isaac Peral has gathered this Friday, January 18 to 200 students of ESO and Bachiller for the opening of the LV Mathematical Olympiad 2019. The event is one of the events scheduled to mark the 50th anniversary of the Cartagena educational center and 150 years who completes secondary education in the port city.

The opening ceremony of this competition was attended by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, who stated that "we must give visibility to a subject as complex as Mathematics.

I am happy and grateful to the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and the General Directorate of Universities of the Region of Murcia, as well as to all those who have made it possible for this championship to take place in Cartagena ".

The test held in Cartagena is one of the 19 that will be organized throughout the Autonomous Community in this edition.

In total, more than 3,500 ESO and Bachiller students will participate in these Regional Olympics.

According to the General Director of Universities of the Region of Murcia, Juan Monzó, Murcia is the only community in Spain that convenes this contest with universities.

"We do it to take care of talent, these students are very bright, they study a lot.

Also so that they can go to the national and international phases, "said Monzó.

For his part, the rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Alejandro Díaz, said that it is important that tests are done well, because "today we talk about mathematics, but this extends to everything that depends on mathematics, such as engineering , architecture, or the sciences of the company ".
