The Aljorra celebrates on Saturday the XXIV Encuentro de Cuadrillas (11/01/2019)

The Aljorra celebrates on Saturday, January 12, at 4:00 pm, the 'XXIV Encuentro de Cuadrillas'.

The event, organized by the cultural association Cuadrilla de La Aljorra, will take place in the Parish Hall, with the collaboration of the City of Cartagena and the Neighborhood Board.

The crews invited to this contest of traditional music are the squads La Costera, Isla Plana, Las Balsicas of Puerto de Mazarrón, Molinos Marfagones, Tallante and the Aljarara itself.

In the meeting will be the councilman of Culture, David Martinez.

A group of musicians is a small group of people from a locality that plays traditional music without having any professional training, but a traditional formation that has been passed from parents to children, generation after generation.

This type of grouping is very common in Murcia, Cartagena, Caravaca de la Cruz, among others.

The most magnificent period of these musical groups is at Christmas (from December 7 to February 2).

During this time all the music groups perform the Masses of Gozo, of Gallo, the Dances in houses, Romerías, the Race of Aguilandos and the Easter Song.

The bands basically play string and percussion instruments, although some incorporate wind instruments such as the clarinet or the recorder.

It is also very common to dance boleros during these meetings, a recreation of the popular dances performed by masters of dance in the 18th century.
