Social Services activates the emergency device to care for the homeless due to the lowering of temperatures (10/01/2019)

The City of Cartagena in coordination with the Social Entities Cruz Roja, Cáritas, ACCEM, Hospitality of Santa Teresa and CEA La Huertecica, have activated the emergency device by Ola de Frío from 12:00 hours on Thursday 10, to guarantee the care necessary for homeless people and bystanders, who may be affected by adverse weather conditions, living in street conditions.

In the meeting that was chaired by the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, representatives of the Local Police, Civil Protection and Technicians of Attention to the Homeless have also participated.

Each one of the Social Entities and departments that have participated will carry out a work in close coordination to attend the basic tasks of the group, we highlight:

ACCEM, Day Center for Social Emergency, daily personal attention, breakfast, laundry, shower and toilet, from 9 a.m. to 2 pm and from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

Red Cross, the entity will make nightly departures with hours from 21 to 3 hours, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with a team of volunteers and technicians.

Blankets, overnight kit and hot drinks will be delivered.

La Huertecica, Meeting and Reception Center, coffee-contact service, hygiene service and basic care: showers, oral-dental hygiene, laundry, pediculosis, hairdressing and aesthetics among others.

Hospitality of Santa Teresa, the welcome to homeless people, vulnerable at risk of social exclusion, offers a set of services for accommodation and social support.

In addition it will make night outings on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Caritas, with a team of 6 volunteers, will offer hot drinks, warm clothes, blankets ... with departures on Thursdays and Sundays from 9 pm.

With this approach and coordination, an immediate response is given, guaranteeing the coverage of basic needs and favoring access to existing Social Protection resources.

The Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, thanked the work done by all Municipal Entities and Resources throughout the year and the measures taken to strengthen these days, with the aim that everyone who needs it, have an accommodation , "The main objective of this City Council is that during this period it gives low temperatures, nobody is in a street situation".

All citizens are reminded that if they know of any situation, they should inform the Local Police.
