Citizens will propose measures to fight against tax fraud, unfair competition and the underground economy in Cartagena (07/01/2019)

- The orange training will present a battery of questions at the next plenary session for complaints from the styling and hairdressing sector in Cartagena, and will shortly propose a working table against the underground economy where it will present a package of actions

Cartagena, Monday, January 7.

As a result of the information published by the newspaper La Verdad about the barbershop sector in Cartagena, Ciudadanos wants to remember that in 2017 it publicly denounced some of the problems of this sector such as the boom of low cost hairdressers, the possible unfair competition and the need to clarify the legal situation of these establishments before the doubts and suspicions of the Regional Association of Hairdressers of Cartagena.

"Despite our complaints, the local government still has not given answers, so we have decided to take a battery of questions to the next plenary session to shed some light on this matter," said Cs Cartagena spokesman Manuel Padín today. He has specified that he will ask about the number of licenses for hairdressers that exist in the city, if the City Council is aware of the complaints of this association and the municipal tools available to clarify the problem and ensure that there is no unfair competition.

On the other hand, Ciudadanos reports that it is working to establish measures to fight against fiscal fraud and the underground economy in Cartagena, "and to contextualize this problem we are going to propose a working table against the submerged economy", advances the spokesperson for Citizens.

Manuel Padín believes that "this not only affects the guild of hairdressers, but also that of hoteliers, food establishments or tour guides, among others, and it is necessary that the authorities take this issue once and for all. and increase the work of inspection and monitoring of the regulations and control that these places and services that offer such low prices are up to date in the payment of taxes, but also provide those who comply with a lighter bureaucracy, otherwise they will pay and they will end up closing those that do respect the rules of the game. "

According to the collective of hairdressers, this underground economy is doing a lot of damage to the legal hairdressers that are registered in Cartagena since they do not believe that they are paying their taxes, nor that they are registered in the Social Security, nor have the opening license and activity, and that abusive working conditions are being generated.

The orange training spokesman explained that this group understands that only unfair competition can explain the phenomenon, "they do not know how these hairdressers can charge only four or five euros, they assure us that they have made calculations (rent, payment of licenses, VAT, electricity, water, work material, staff payroll) and that it is impossible to work with those prices and obtain an optimal profit margin ".

In addition, they also accuse many establishments of not complying with schedule regulations, even advertising on the urban furniture that irregular hourly availability.

"If this phenomenon responds to the rules of the market we have nothing to say, but if this situation has been reached through irregular channels, the City Council and the Labor Inspectorate can act," says Padín.

Citizens remember that in Spain some similar styling and hairdressing associations have reached agreements with the Treasury delegation of their territory to defend the sector and facilitate the complaint to the competent authorities for illegal actions, "this type of collaboration agreements can also subscribe the City Council and the Territorial Directorate of Labor and Social Security Inspection in the Region of Murcia, "says Manuel Padín.

"It is not fair what is happening, when you lose customers because of unfair competition, you reduce your income and it becomes very difficult to pay the rent of the premises, many of them are doomed to dismiss staff or the closure of your business ", Manuel Padín lamented.

The spokesman for Citizens has reported that "this issue goes beyond the municipal level and we are going to inform our regional and national deputies about these complaints, so that they in turn send the Labor and Social Security Inspectorate the need to be more vigilant, but we also want to work in parallel at the local level, analyze what our City Council can do to prevent the irregular establishments of Cartagena from continuing to plunge the businessmen who do comply with the rules of the game.
