The Kings arrived and delighted everyone (06/01/2019)

Their Majesties the Magi of the East filled Cartagena yesterday of illusion and magic, with a wide program of activities with children, elderly, sick and elderly, organized by the Council of Celebrations of the City of Cartagena.

The day culminated in the multitudinous cavalcade that brought together tens of thousands of people.

The agenda of Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar began very early in the morning, visiting the children of the Hogar de la Infancia.

Later they would meet with the elderly people of the Nursing Home, to finish bringing toys and jellybeans to the youngest of the Hospital of Santa Lucia.

Around noon they embarked on the catamaran of Cartagena, Puerto de Culturas, on the pier of San Pedro, and made a short journey until they reached the Alfonso XII pier, where hundreds of children waited impatiently for the sounds of a Christmas charanga.

From there the Three Wise Men marched to the Consistorial Palace, where they were received by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, and greeted the attendees from the main balcony.

Then they offered a reception in the Town Hall Square, where the little ones could say hello, deliver their letter, tell them what they want as a gift or take a picture with their majesties.

An activity that year after year brings together thousands of children.

In the afternoon came the Cavalcade, the most expected by the little ones during Christmas.

This year, the Cabalgata composed 14 floats (10 occupied by neighborhood associations) that distributed a total of 18 thousand stuffed animals, 3 thousand kilos of candies and 65 bags of jelly beans.

The procession will again have the collaboration of the Shopping Center of the English Court, which sponsored two floats and entrepreneurs of the Polygon Cabezo Beaza that gave away part of the stuffed animals.

The neighborhood associations of Santa Lucía, Lomas de Canteras, Mediterráneo Urbanization, Estación Station, Puerto de Santa Bárbara de Arriba, Cuesta Blanca, Galifa, La Aparecida, San Antonio Abad and Virgen de la Caridad occupied each of the floats, thanks to the lottery carried out by the Department of Celebrations on December 12, to facilitate the participation of neighborhoods and councils.

The parade began at 6:30 p.m. in the Alameda de San Antón with the 1990 Music Band and ended without incidents worthy of highlighting at 10:30 p.m. in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

During their journey, tens of thousands of attendees could enjoy allegorical floats of series and animated films such as The Incredibles, Coco, Madagascar, Pepa Pig, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, among others, as well as various brass bands and animation groups , also series and movies preferred by children.

The Cabalgata ran through the main streets and squares of Cartagena, such as the Plaza de España, Paseo Alfonso XIII, Santa Florentina Street, Carrer del Carmen, Calle Jabonerías, Calle Sagasta, Puerta de Murcia and Calle Mayor.

As other years, chairs were placed at the citizens' disposal that were located in the streets Puertas de Murcia, Santa Florentina, Carmen and Jabonerías.

There were also free city buses from three in the afternoon and their frequency of passage was improved as if it were a working day.

SECURITY DURING THE HORSE RIDING OF KINGS

More than 80 personnel, including Local Police, Fire and Civil Protection, ensured the safety of the attendees and the participants.

To this the ordinary device was added, not only of Local Police and Firemen, but also of National Police and Civil Guard.

As recommended by the Department of Safety, in order to avoid traffic jams, there were many trips on foot and used the deterrent parking and transportation.
