Cs will impose measures to tackle the depopulation in the municipality of Cartagena to support the 2019 budgets (04/01/2019)

- The orange formation managed in the October regular plenary session to take forward an agreement to launch an analysis of the socioeconomic evolution of the districts of Cartagena as a step prior to the development of a comprehensive plan against depopulation in neighborhoods, councils and areas of Casco Historical

While the population increases in the Region of Murcia, Cartagena adds four consecutive years of demographic regression, and low of 214,000 to be placed in the 213,943 inhabitants, as today reports the newspaper La Opinión citing the INE.

"66 percent of the municipalities increase their census while ours suffers the sharpest decline that has returned us to 2007, and is the only municipality with a large population with negative data, it seems an alarming information that confirms the need for apply the measures that we have already proposed successfully in plenary, "said the spokesman of Cs Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

Citizens has been the only party that has warned of this phenomenon in Cartagena and managed last October to take forward in the ordinary plenary session an agreement that urges the Government of Cartagena to develop, as soon as possible, a study on the socioeconomic reality of the municipality, to identify the evolution of those areas with a greater deficit in services and infrastructures, as well as lack of public aid and those that are suffering from the phenomenon of depopulation.

The Cs initiative also calls for an analysis of the economic and personnel possibilities needed to expand the current and limited Municipal Employment Observatory in order to extend its objectives so that it is a complete socio-economic observatory that guides budgetary policies;

this will be one of its conditions to support the 2019 accounts of the ADLE.

For Manuel Padín, "the depopulation or demographic regression is already a problem of State, as the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces has warned more than a year ago".

"Our municipality is suffering this phenomenon with special virulence and that is the final consequence of a chain of nonsense and bad municipal policies since 2015 with MC and PSOE, and the lack of investment by the regional government of the PP, this has generated the loss and worsening of basic services due to the lack of public investment, job opportunities and urban deterioration, factors that have seriously damaged neighborhoods, councils, and depressed areas of the Old Town, "said the orange spokesman who has given example what happens in neighborhoods such as "La Concepción, San Antón, Virgen de la Caridad, deputations such as El Beal, and even areas of the Historic District of Cartagena as the surroundings of the Plaza del Lago".

"With our proposal to analyze the socioeconomic profile of our districts, that is, with a rigorous and technical analysis, we are going to address with guarantees the preparation of a fair municipal and regional budget that affects the areas that suffer depopulation, and thus avoid some accounts made at the stroke of improvisation and political opportunism to win votes as has been done in Cartagena for decades thanks to PP, PSOE and MC, "says Manuel Padin who has announced that this study will be one of his conditions to be able to support the 2019 budgets.

Rational and informed economic plan against depopulation

Citizens know how to reverse this situation, and are able to face it, first with this analysis that will guide municipal policies, and second, with the drafting and implementation of a comprehensive economic plan against depopulation in Cartagena that includes tax incentives for the installation of companies, the design of a map of basic needs, regional and European help lines to improve housing, intermediation works to resuscitate commercial activity, new inventories and empty housing stock exchanges, promote access to banking services in rural areas, promote local daycare services inspired by home help for the elderly, improvements in public transport, among many other measures of which we have already proven their effectiveness, "said Manuel Padin.
