Most of the students involved are young students of Nursing and Criminology, who have chosen mainly to collaborate with the projects that the FADE Foundation develops in the oncology and pediatric services of the Santa Lucía Hospital, as well as volunteering with the Children's Home.
The commitment of the San Antonio Catholic University to promote the collaboration of its students as volunteers of social entities of the Comarca of Cartagena from the University Welcoming day, continues to increase the involvement that students of the Los Campus have already had with this type of initiative. In this sense, during this quarter two lines of collaboration are being carried out.
The main one is in which about thirty young people, will collaborate in a disinterested way throughout the semester in projects that non-profit organizations of the Comarca develop in the area.
Specifically, this year the projects that more volunteers have obtained from the Cartagena campus of the UCAM have been those of the Foundation Aid to Development and Education (FADE), which are executed in the oncology and pediatric services of the Santa Lucía Hospital;
followed by volunteering actions with the Children's Home;
support for ASTUS in its assistance programs for people with disabilities;
the leisure programs of CUSTODIRE and the collaboration in the Fundación Proyecto Abraham y Fundamifd, ​​which has a residence for people with disabilities of the National Police Force in San Javier.
Among the volunteers enrolled this quarter to the Volunteering program of the UCAM in Cartagena, within which the University provides its students with prior training and academic recognition, but also involves an enrichment in their personal development for their professional future, most of them they are students of the Degree in Nursing, Criminology and Physiotherapy, followed by those of Infant Education.
Accompaniment to the elderly of the Asylum of the Poor
The other action is carried out by a score of students every month accompanying the elders of the Nursing Home of the Sisters of the Poor together with the Campus Chaplain, with which a few days ago a score of students accompanied the elderly from this center to see the Municipal Bethlehem and sing Christmas carols through the center of the city.
