THE PAINTINGS

The paintings are paintings by Apollo and the Musees de la poesía Terpsícore and Calíope, works from the first century, found in the excavations of the Archaeological Park of the Molinete de Cartagena.

Due to their remarkable technical and stylistic quality they are the work of artisans of italic origin.

They come from a public environment, perhaps from the Atrium building itself (which can be visited in the Barrio del Foro Romano), where a hypothetical cycle of Apollo and the Nine Muses would have recreated a cultural environment.

But in the year 218, these paintings were extracted and reused in room 14 a.

The pictorial group appeared very fragmented in a cave-in located during the archaeological excavation of rooms 14 a and c of the Atrium Building.

Subsequently began its work of restoration and conservation, to finally be exposed to visitors.

First in the National Archaeological Museum of Madrid and now in the Museum of Murcia.
