The UPCT bottles 3,000 liters of merseguera grape wine (13/12/2018)

The new vintage of the Tomás Ferro wine, prepared at the Agroalimentary Experimental Station of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), is now ready.

On this occasion, students and teachers of the School of Agricultural Engineers of the UPCT have been busy preparing 4,500 liters of wine, of which 3,000 have been bottled.

One of the novelties of this year has been that the project has involved for the first time students of the Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineering (ETSIA), supervised by teachers from the School and advised by the managers of Bodegas Luzón, a company that sponsors the add this year.

In addition, the companies that are part of the Chair of Sustainable Agriculture will give the wine in the baskets of their employees.

"It is a softer wine, quite fresh and fruity," says the director of Agronomists, Arantxa Aznar, who recalled that the School is working for the students of the center to set up a competition team to make wine and present it to various competitions.

Of the Merseguera grape variety, only 25 hectares are planted in the field of Cartagena, compared to the 300 hectares that were fifteen years ago, one of those hectares is located in the Tomás Ferro Estate, in La Palma.

The presentation of the vintage has been sponsored by the Cooperativa de Almendra Murciana, Designation of Origin Quesos de Murcia, Sabor de Cieza, Hermanos Fuentes e Hijos and the bakery San Ramón
