López Miras reaffirms his commitment to promote and consolidate the "enormous industrial, agricultural and tourist potential of Cartagena" (05/12/2018)

Ensures that the elimination of the tax of inheritance and donations "has already meant a saving of 22 million euros to Cartagena"

The president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, today reaffirmed the commitment of the regional government to promote and consolidate the "huge industrial, agricultural and tourism potential of Cartagena and its region, one of the most important territories in all of Spain in these areas."

"The budgets for 2019 destine more than 56 million to consolidate this regional productive fabric with aid to companies and entrepreneurs," said the president at the opening of the 16th Conference for Business Leaders, where the report 'Strategic analysis of the economy of the region of Cartagena.

Said report, carried out by the Chair of Economic Studies Service COEC-UPCT, "reflects where we are, where we want to go and what are the means to achieve that goal," said the president, who remarked that, for this, "we need tools that make it possible for these sectors, which already have enormous potential, to grow, expand and reach the rest of the world. "

In this regard, he affirmed that "we need certainty, stability and that there are no more doubts" about the High Speed ​​and the Mediterranean Corridor to Cartagena, the Port of Gorguel or the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL), "key infrastructure for the development of Cartagena and the future of the Region of Murcia and Spain ".

Similarly, during his speech referred to the General Urban Plan of Cartagena (PGOU), "the greatest growth tool of the city and that has to develop the city."

He explained that "since there was no such PGOU, nor prospects for approval in a short period of time, we tried to unblock that situation with transitory rules that give certainty so that investment and development in Cartagena are not halted".

He recalled that these transitory rules are a "tool that the regional government had never before implemented and that exceptionally have used some municipalities in Spain."

However, he said, "it was necessary to have maximum legal security so we consulted the Legal Council, which told us what to do."

Role of entrepreneurs in the development of the Region

Throughout this development process, the president highlighted the role of entrepreneurs as "creators of opportunities and employment" and their contribution to making Cartagena and the Region "a true space of economic freedom."

Among the measures put in place to achieve this, he highlighted the elimination of the tax on inheritance and donations, "which has already led to a saving of 22 million euros to the people of Cartagena", also referred to the reduction of the IRPF or the elimination of bureaucratic obstacles .

The president detailed some of the items provided in the 2019 budgets that reflect the commitment of the regional government for Cartagena, such as the 41.5 million that the UPCT will receive, "the largest budget in its history", the 1.6 million destined to the improvement of the regional road network;

more than one million euros that will be invested in improving infrastructures of the schools of the municipality, or the 4 million euros that are allocated to the Environmental Recovery Plan of Soils Affected by Mining.
