Cartagena receives the recognition of Ciudad Amiga de la Infancia in Oviedo (27/11/2018)

The Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, picked up on Tuesday, November 27, the recognition of UNICEF with which Cartagena is distinguished as Child Friendly City.

In the ceremony of delivery of the VIII Child Friendly Cities Recognition, held at the Exhibition and Congress Palace of Oviedo with a capacity of 500 people, it has been awarded for the first time to 114 local governments, another 80 have renewed their commitment to children and 25 projects have received recognition of Good Practices in Children's Rights and Municipal Policy.

Cartagena obtained the Recognition Seal as 'Child Friendly City' (CAI) following the decision of the VIII Edition of the Spanish Committee.

A city recognized with this Seal is one where the voices, needs, priorities and rights of children are an integral part of policies, programs and public decisions.

According to the mayor explained at the time of the denomination, this recognition is the beginning of a process of continuous improvement to develop jointly with all social actors policies and local initiatives, which will serve to promote the real application on the rights of the child, of November 20, 1989. The City Council's commitment is to continue contributing to the improvement of the living conditions of children and adolescents and to implement all the municipal policies necessary to achieve this goal.

For its part, the president of UNICEF in the Region of Murcia, Amparo Marzal, stressed that the approximately 50,000 children of the municipality of Cartagena live in a city that has childhood among its priorities, which works as a team in coordination "this is only a starting point, but it is a commitment of the City of Cartagena with the rights of children. "

The coordinated work of all the Councils and associations that work with them.

The promotion of children's participation in the Children's Council, giving voice to boys and girls

The diversity of activities related to childhood that are carried out.
