Citizens reports that the Government of Cartagena has begun to implement its proposal to improve the energy efficiency of municipal buildings and begin work to obtain the qualification, which must be located through a label in a prominent and visible place, following the precepts of the current regulations.

The Cs initiative was defended in March 2017 and is framed in the new Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, by which the signatory municipalities committed to reduce CO2 emissions, increase energy efficiency savings, increase the consumption of energy from renewable sources, prepare a Reference Emissions Inventory (IER), present an Action Plan for Sustainable Energy and Climate (PACES) within two years of signing the agreement, and publish a Follow-up report every two years.

The contract, subdivided into two lots, has already been awarded for an amount of 27,800 euros to the companies CETENMA, Technological Center for Energy and Environment, and ACO3, Projects and Works;

the execution period will end on December 28.

The provision of the service consists of the preparation and drafting of the necessary documentation for the energy certification of buildings.

In addition, companies will provide a report with real estate improvement solutions prioritizing actions that benefit more can lead to lower economic costs, "the goal we set ourselves in Cs is to identify the level of efficiency of each of our buildings and clearly define the lines of action for the improvement of energy and the reduction of CO2 emissions ", explained the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

The works for the evaluation have already begun in several buildings, among them, the Consistorial Palace, "when they finish we will ask to see the conclusions because depending on them, we will propose our proposals to integrate them in future construction projects".

"We have not complied with the regulations for five years, most of our municipal buildings do not have the energy rating, neither PP nor MC wanted to move a finger, but with this step we started to move in the right direction," said Manuel Padín.

"In Ciudadanos we are fully aware of the workload of our municipal technicians, but it was already too many years since this norm came into force, that is why we asked the Government to value dealing with this issue through a specialized company, in any case, the qualification of the state of the municipal buildings with respect to their energy efficiency is only the first phase of the plan we have planned: the establishment of a package of measures to reduce the costs related to energy consumption to favor a more respectful interaction with the environment ", Manuel Padín has explained.
