Blue march in Cartagena to give visibility to diabetes (21/11/2018)

The Plaza del Ayuntamiento has been dyed blue with the T-shirts, pennants and bandanas of the more than 500 participants of the VIII United for Diabetes Solidarity March (which had to be postponed on November 14 due to the inclement weather).

The activity is organized within the XVII Diabetes Week in Cartagena, which has as its main theme 'Family and Diabetes'.

Precisely the impact of the disease on the family has wanted to speak the Councilor for Education, Youth and Equality, David Martinez, before starting the march organized by the Diabetes Association of Cartagena and Shire, SODICAR.

Martinez has praised the dedication of all parents of children with diabetes, "to those who, when their children debuted, kept smiling, despite how overwhelmed they were by all the information they had to assimilate", but also "to all those parents and mothers that they fell down, that they could not contain the tears in those first moments, but that later they were remade, and now they are true experts ".

The mayor of Youth has also appreciated the efforts of all those parents who wake up at dawn to control the blood glucose levels of their children, taking off hours of sleep.

In addition to showing their admiration to the courage of all parents "who have the courage to let their little ones go to birthday parties" or when they are older "going out to parties", despite the concern for them, aware that they need to feel free.

To end his speech, Martinez recalled that the Minister of Health announced that the price of continuous glucose meters was being negotiated with the company, so that they can be offered free of charge to all diabetics.

For its part, the president of SODICAR, María Dolores García, thanked Martinez for showing, with his words "empathy with those affected by diabetes."

Next, García also thanked the participation in the march of the schools: Mare Nostrum, San Ginés de la Jara, San Vicente de Paúl, and El Cano, as well as the support received from the entities such as the City Council as well as the collaboration of the sponsors.

After the brief words of the councilor of Youth and the president of Sodicar, the blue march has left from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento to the Calle Mayor, passing through the Gates of Murcia, Calle del Carmen, Plaza de España, Paseo Alfonso XIII, until reaching the Regional Assembly, where the magician Abel Magia has acted.

After the magic show, the VIII United for Diabetes Solidarity March has been concluded.
