Students from the 'Barrios' program of the ADLE carry out maintenance work in the Virgen de la Caridad neighborhood (12/11/2018)

The students of the Barrios program of the Agency of Local Development and Employment in the neighborhood Virgen de la Caridad have shown this Monday, November 12, the maintenance, gardening and masonry work they are developing in gardens and municipal facilities.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has visited these maintenance works together with the mayor of commerce and president of the ADLE, Carmen Martín;

the edile of Public Function, Manuel Mora;

the manager of the ADLE, Fulgencio Cerón and the president of the Neighborhood Association of the neighborhood, Juan Ayala.

The 12 students who are carrying out the Barrios-ADLE Virgen de la Caridad program, who started the course on October 8 and will finish it on December 20, are receiving theoretical and practical training in masonry, painting and gardening.

These students, who are beneficiaries of an assistance grant of 10 euros a day, are receiving theoretical classes in the classrooms of the Neighborhood Association and practical training is completed with small masonry, painting and gardening jobs in the neighborhood, specifically in the Park Cedera Badía;

in the Plaza Cronista Casal;

Alberto Colao Square;

Plaza Guardería;

Plaza Cendre Badía;

Calle Mayor García Vaso and Calle Mayor Carrión Inglés.

The mayor of Cartagena has been able to verify the evolution of these spaces after the first works developed by the students.

During his visit, Castejón, said that "these jobs exceed the expectations we had."

To which he added that "the Barrios program is designed to respond to people from the neighborhood who, after theoretical training, are now contributing to the maintenance of the municipapal spaces of their neighborhood."

On the other hand, the first mayor has been "proud" of the work of masonry and painting carried out in a local municipal offices that, after these improvements, is available for use by associations or other social groups who want to develop their I work in this space.

In addition, he indicated that during the visit they also accompanied the mayor of Public Safety, Manuel Mora, because from the City Council wants to continue working so that the appropriate actions are carried out aimed at improving safety, cleanliness and lighting so that it remains an example in the whole municipality of associative matter.

On the other hand, the president of the Association of Neighbors, Juan Ayala, has indicated that with actions like this one "sensitizes the neighbors and makes them participate in the improvements of their neighborhood".

The manager of the ADLE, Fulgencio Cerón, has qualified that with programs such as Barrios "the agency aims to promote employability among the most disadvantaged groups and decentralize our resources to bring them closer to the neighborhoods further away from the center".

From among the 22 candidates who submitted the application, a pre-selection was conducted by the Association of Neighbors, ACCEM, and the Department of Social Services.

To finalize the selection of the students, the Local Development and Employment Agency chose the 12 profiles that met the employability requirements.

All students will receive orientation for employment, and once the program is finalized, the curricula of the students will be incorporated into the database of the Placement Agency.

With this workshop it is intended that the students who complete it are prepared to be able to perform complete tasks of urban maintenance (garden cleaning, painting, masonry).
