Kulunguele: The festival of diversity and inclusion returns with the Salesian project of Alraso (09/11/2018)

The Alraso Program of the Angel Tomás Foundation will soon be 16 years old since it began in 2002 as a social action program to serve the immigrant population of Cartagena and to favor their social and labor insertion.

The program is part of the Ángel Tomás Foundation (FISAT), which develops projects for children and youth in the Valencian Community and Cartagena.

From the Alraso -FISAT program, more than 200 people participate in the different resources offered by the entity (Awalé project for the learning of the Spanish language, itineraries of socio-labor insertion, introductory project of integral reception, Shirika Educational Support Project for young people between 15 and 21 years old who are immersed in the educational system).

Through these lines of action, the Angel Tomás Foundation responds to the reality of the immigrant population in Cartagena.

With data from 2018, Cartagena has 11% of the immigrant population, more than half from Morocco.

Among the needs of this part of the population are those derived from the difficulties of integration in the host city, "the number of immigrant families in the area continues to increase, although they live in the neighborhood, they are not really integrated into society because they have little contact with the original population of the country, the city or the neighborhood, due, among other factors, to the ignorance of the language and culture as well as the lack of both personal and economic resources to be able to relate in a satisfactory manner ", explains Rubén Aliaga, educator in the Alraso project.

The problem of employment is another factor addressed by the Foundation, "due to the high rates of unemployment and instability in recruitment that affects especially this group." To this is added the deficit of basic training and little or no training for the job search, "he stresses.

High demand for language training and learning

Alraso FISAT is a reference project in Cartagena that has been adapting during these years to the new needs of society.

"The Awalé program for learning the Spanish language is in high demand and has a waiting list of more than 100. The interest of the immigrant population to improve their linguistic and cultural training is very remarkable," says Aliaga.

The training courses are also the most demanded within the resources offered by Alraso-FISAT, courses such as Kitchen Assistant, Warehouse Assistant and bartender, with internships in companies have been taught.

"Thanks to the quality of the training and the professional profile, companies are increasingly supporting employment insertion programs through non-work practices, thus betting on the social and labor integration of this group".

The Angel Tomás Foundation wants to promote the actions of Corporate Social Responsibility and in this sense, it is worth mentioning the good reception of the Meeting of Companies of Cartagena that annually celebrates Alraso and that is already in its third edition.

More than 1500 people have registered in Alraso FISAT
