UCAM Cartagena includes sign language among the offer of its Language School (31/10/2018)

The Catholic University will hold a free workshop on this form of communication on Wednesday, November 7 at the Los Dolores Campus, as a preliminary step to the level A1 and A2 courses it intends to teach throughout this academic period.

San Antonio Catholic University continues to diversify the training offer of its Campus of Los Dolores and, as of this year, will include sign language within the options of its Higher Language School.

In this sense, for the first time, the UCAM will offer at its facilities in Cartagena a free workshop to approach this communication system on Wednesday, November 7 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., to which interested parties can register via the web eventos.ucam.edu, whether or not they are members of the university community.

In addition, throughout this course, it plans to provide more extensive training for A1 and A2 levels of sign language, thus adding to the courses of other languages ​​such as English, Spanish, German, Chinese, Italian and French.

The inclusion of the Spanish Sign Language in this training offer will contribute on the one hand to respond to the needs of accessibility to communication for deaf people, eliminating social barriers, and on the other hand to the future labor integration of the students of the UCAM , especially those who practice as professors after completing the Degrees of Sports Science, Infant and Primary Education, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Psychology, but also as complementary training for students and professionals of social work, the tourism sector, art, the culture, the translation and interpretation of oral languages, health, and, ultimately, in any field of action of deaf people.

The learning of this language allows, on the one hand, give a unique character to your professional profile and, at the same time, develop skills related to facial and body expression.

It is a form of visual-gestural communication with which communication barriers are eliminated and thoughts are expressed without the need to write.

In these courses the practical aspects of this language will be put into practice, but it will also reflect on the use of its grammatical and lexical structure based on studies, foundations and consolidated linguistic principles.

On the other hand, the participants will know aspects of the "Deaf Culture" and the history that goes together with this language recognized as the official language of the Spanish State and a right for the users of it.
