A forum turns Cartagena into the capital of Intelligent Tourism 4.0 (25/10/2018)

The Autonomous Community, through the Info, allocates 1.3 million euros this year in aid, up to 180,000 euros, to tourism companies

The Minister of Transparency, Participation and Spokesperson, Noelia Arroyo, opened today the Smart Tourism Forum, a meeting point for local entities, businesses and tourism associations and companies in Cartagena to know the latest trends and technological tools available for face new management challenges in their sector, which also includes demonstrations.

Noelia Arroyo stressed that Cartagena is "a touristic, modern and avant-garde city, which should take better advantage of its natural and cultural attractions with the application of innovative technologies that allow us to be more competitive and efficient".

Overnight stays in hotels in the port city have risen by 6.5 percent and the average stay in accommodation in the municipality is four days, "which shows that the Region is resisting better than others the external situation, and that the greatest boost it is derived from the average stay and the expense per tourist. "

The spokesperson of the regional executive encouraged to join efforts from public administrations, universities and companies in the tourism and industrial sector, "to undertake a true digital transformation that responds to the demands and habits of the tourist of the XXI century."

To achieve this goal, explained the counselor, "we have not only recognized leading technology companies in the sector, but the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, where young people of the future develop their academic and scientific activity, which then apply to private companies" .

Noelia Arroyo said that "the regional government is committed to the digital transformation within the tourism sector and for this purpose allocates 1.3 million euros in aid aimed at companies in order to improve the competitiveness of the sector through the incorporation of information technologies and the communication and home automation in the establishments, as well as other improvements that increase the quality of the accommodations and allow them to gain competitiveness to consolidate 2,000 direct jobs ".

Each project can receive up to 180,000 euros and it is estimated that between thirty and fifty businesses can benefit.

Likewise, he recalled that in recent years the Institute of Development has made an investment of 14.7 million euros in a total of 267 projects in Cartagena and the region, which have involved a business investment of almost 70 million euros with the creation of 400 direct jobs and the maintenance of another 7,300 jobs.

"Both in the Industrial Strategy 4.0 and in the industrial and technological momentum agenda of the Region of Murcia, the fundamental role of introducing technological innovation in companies to turn our region into an intelligent tourist destination is highlighted", he said.
