Bernabé: "We demand PSOE and we can include in the General State Budget for 2019 the construction of the City of Justice in Cartagena" (18/10/2018)

Affirms that "Cartagena must immediately have a commercial court and four new courts of first instance to end the existing judicial collapse"

The Popular Party has presented a battery of motions before the Congress of Deputies, the Senate, the Regional Assembly and the municipalities of Cartagena, La Unión and Fuente Álamo, demanding the construction of the new City of Justice in Cartagena, as well as the creation of new judicial bodies "to end the situation of collapse and delays that is being experienced by citizens and professionals of the legal sector in this judicial party," said on Thursday the popular spokesman of the commission of Development in the Senate, Francisco Bernabé, who has been accompanied at a press conference by the regional deputy of the PP, Domingo Segado and the spokesman of the party in the City of Cartagena, Francisco Espejo.

During his speech, Bernabé explained that "the judicial district of Cartagena encompasses the municipalities of Cartagena, La Unión and Fuente Álamo, which as a whole means a population close to 300,000 people, that is, close to 20% of the population total of the autonomous community, and in it 30% of the regional economic activity is developed ".

The popular senator has referred to the shortage of space in the Palace of Justice located on Angel Bruna Street, "what has made that in recent years, on the occasion of the creation of new judicial bodies, several of the courts have been transferred to other units outside said property ".

This, according to what has been said, has caused that "there are judicial offices distributed in three different locations of the city, with the consequent discomfort that for officials, professionals and citizens causes such physical dispersion".

Another drawback, has qualified is "the collapse experienced by existing judicial bodies for the high volume of issues that deal, especially in the field of private law, which requires as a matter of urgency the immediate commissioning of the new family court ".

A court that, he has clarified, "the previous Government of the PP left already created and with the works of adaptation of the premises in which it is foreseen that it is located in the contract phase for an amount of 170,000 euros"

Bernabé considers "equally inescapable" and that is why he has demanded from the Government of Pedro Sánchez, "the creation of four new courts of first instance to deal with the existing high litigiousness, as well as, in a very special way, the creation of a commercial court, whose location must necessarily be in Cartagena and not in Murcia, where there are already two bodies of this type. "

It is, has underlined "an organ that is essential for the high commercial traffic that exists in the region, and also because we are talking about the second city in importance of the Autonomous Community, in the style of how it has been previously done in other places".

At this point, the 'popular' senator has set the example of the cities of Gijón with respect to Oviedo or Elche in relation to Alicante.

"Thus, from the Popular Party we demand the socialist government, with words, and also with facts via the motions we have presented, which immediately believes in the region the judicial infrastructures it needs at the level of material and human means.

He has also asked that the construction project of the City of Justice be undertaken without delays in time because, in his opinion, "it is the only valid way out to be able to provide the citizens with this essential service of every State of Straight".

It should be recalled, added the senator, "that the Ministry of Justice of the Government of Mariano Rajoy undertook to include the necessary budget to start this project in 2019, beginning with this purpose the negotiations with the City of Cartagena to the purpose of part of the municipality was given the land necessary to bring this initiative to fruition, as they had previously done the consistories of Murcia and Lorca for the location of their new courts. "

In this regard, Francisco Bernabé has said that "interministerial talks were held with the heads of the Ministry of Defense to study the possible location of the complex on the grounds of the Army Subsistence Factory, located on the Avenida Reina Victoria in the departmental city" .

In line with these statements, he regretted that "five months have passed since the arrival of Pedro Sánchez to power and nothing else has been known about it, despite being of the same political color the Government of Spain and the city" .

For that reason, he has urged the local and national PSOE to "leave aside the photos and posture, to immediately start working together and seriously in managing the land on which the future City of Justice should be located".

This absence of news, as Bernabé has said, "is causing the logical alarm and concern in society Cartagena in general, and the group of professionals and officials linked to the administration of Justice in particular" and added that this happens " very especially in view of the recent budget agreement between PSOE and Podemos for next year, of which we know nothing in terms of administration of Justice, and in which from the Popular Party demand that these investments be included to meet the judicial needs present and future of the whole region ".
