José López demands that the regional and state governments of the PP and PSOE offer solutions to society in the face of the public health problem in El Hondón (04/10/2018)

The Nuclear Safety Council made public yesterday that the land of El Hondón, which used to house the old Potasas y Derivados factory at the entrance to Cartagena from the highway, is among the only six areas in Spain affected by radiation.

In particular, they warn of the presence of Uranium 238.

In line with this information, the spokesman of the MC Cartagena municipal group and general secretary, José López, has asked if "in the face of the evidence of a public health problem at the national level in which the PSOE and the PP have looked on the other hand, now the regional governments of the PP and state of the PSOE must respond to society Cartagena on whether, at one time, they will allow us to continue supporting a contaminated belt at the entrance of the city, with the risk that entails for our health, or will provide political will and budgetary resources for decontamination. "

López recalled how "since 2001, when the activity of Potasas y Derivados ceased, the PP, during its two decades of mayor's office, has left to its fate the recovery of this area without offering initiatives for its study, cataloging and decontamination "

"The list of those responsible for looking the other way at City Hall and in the Region is sadly very extensive and Cartagena must know: Pilar Barreiro, Joaquín Segado, Francisco Espejo, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, Pedro Antonio Sánchez and Fernando López Miras should explain What is more important than ensuring the health of all, and from the socialist mayor's office, the contribution of Castejón, known until now only by its occurrences and lurches, has been reduced in announcing the acquisition of the land of Solvia, thought of in the future development of the city in an area yet to be decontaminated. "

It should be remembered that the only training that has opted to advance in the decontamination of El Hondón has been MC Cartagena since, under the mayor's office of José López, the study 'Characterization, diagnosis and risk analysis of soils, ponds and preparations in the plot of El Hondón ', by Professor Ángel Faz, to provide, for the first time, an analysis of soil characterization and health risks.

"Only from this initiative of MC do events precipitate and we put El Hondón back on the political agenda."

Likewise, López said, "from MC we promoted, when we were still part of the municipal government through the area of Quality of Life of Francisco Calderón, that a Chair of Quality of Life and Environment was established between the UPCT and the City Council that included , among other aspects, a line of soil regeneration, as a step prior to the drafting and design of the final project of the El Hondón land, in light of the latest news, we hope that the Government of Castejón will explain the progress in this line of work that we started and if that second report exists. "

He also lamented that "the regional government has not responded or collaborated with the Ombudsman, who accused the regional administration of not acting with sufficient diligence to solve the problem of soils contaminated with radioactive matter and heavy metals in El Hondón Despite showing transparency, the response has been the most absolute and disappointing silence. "

Finally, José López has advanced that MC "will demand an urgent appearance of the leadership of the Nuclear Safety Council in the Plenary of Cartagena to explain to political groups and neighbors the real consequences of the CSN declaration of Hondon land as radioactive soil "

"The Cartagena demand explanations and an immediate solution," he concluded.
