The City of Cartagena recognizes the experience of the elderly during the celebration of its International Day (02/10/2018)

To commemorate the International Day of Older Persons, which was held on October 1, the City of Cartagena, through its Department of Social Services, has prepared Tuesday a series of acts of recognition.

With these activities the City Council appreciates the contributions, experience and active participation of older people in the city.

Some of the events scheduled for this celebration have been a day of Open Doors to the Port of Cultures, a visit to the Nursing Home for the Sisters of the Poor, the meeting with the hiking association Senda Senior, the visit of the centenary Santiago Nicolás, and already in the afternoon the reading of a manifesto.

The celebration began with a day of Open Doors at the Port of Cultures, where all people over 60 have had free access to all interpretation centers and museums in Cartagena, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. .

For her part, the Councilor of the Government Team, Mercedes García, has attended a meeting with the newly created hiking association Senda Senior.

The meeting took place at the Asylum of Elders of the Little Sisters of the Poor.

The association has started the course with an intergenerational solidarity march together with the ISEN students.

The mayor also wanted on this day to pay tribute to the elderly visiting his home at the centenary, Santiago Nicolás Martínez, neighbor of the Barreros.

Subsequently, the Cultural Week of the Santa Ana polygon was inaugurated.

In the afternoon, at 5:00 p.m., a manifesto will be read for the International Day of the Elderly, at the main door of the Town Hall, where they will speak for: the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón;

the councilor of the Government Team, Mercedes García;

and the president of the Federation of Associations of the Elderly of Cartagena, María Beteta.

Half an hour later, a commemorative event for the elderly will take place in the classroom of culture of the Caja Mediterráneo Obra Social in the Calle Mayor, where four centenarians will be honored, to the elderly people who collaborate in the Mayor's Unit of the council of Social Services, and the group of Castañeras de Barraida, Virgen de la Caridad.
