The Civil Guard deploys an extensive alcohol and drug verification device coinciding with the Carthaginian and Roman festivities (02/10/2018)

18 drivers have been reported for driving while using drugs

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, coinciding with the celebration of the Carthaginians and Romans, has deployed, on the dates between September 22 and 30, a broad simultaneous device for checking alcohol and drugs in different roads of the Region of Murcia, in order to comply with the control plan for leisure areas and with the Road Safety Strategy 2010-2020 of the General Directorate of Traffic.

In the device, which involved more than 50 agents of the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard of Murcia, have been controlled a total of 4,303 drivers, of which 98 yielded positive result in alcohol (2.28%), 11 of which were arrested and brought to court and another 87 reported to the Provincial Traffic Headquarters of Murcia.

18 drivers have been reported to have circulated having consumed drugs or other prohibited narcotic substances and two others have been arrested for driving without the corresponding driving license.

With these actions, the Benemérita persists in making the population aware of the incompatibility of the consumption of alcoholic beverages and drugs with the driving of vehicles to guarantee road safety on our roads, as well as the normal development of large-scale events, as in this case.

Driving a motor vehicle or moped with an expired air alcohol rate higher than 0.60 mg / l, leads to the arrest of the driver, for alleged crime against road safety, punishable by prison terms of 3 to 6 months or fine of 6 to 12 months or work for the benefit of the community from 31 to 90 days, and in any case the deprivation of the permit for a period of 1 to 4 years.

Driving a motor vehicle or moped lacking administrative authorization to drive, either by never having obtained permission, having been deprived of it by court order or having lost all the points assigned legally, is classified in the Penal Code as crime against road safety and sanctioned with prison sentences of 3 to 6 months or a fine of 6 to 12 months or work benefiting the community from 31 to 90 days.

On the other hand the driving of motor vehicles or mopeds with alcohol rates higher than 0.25 mg / l (0.15 mg / l, novice drivers and professionals) and up to 0.60 mg / l, following the recent reform of the Road Safety Law, supposes an economic sanction of up to € 1000 and the loss of up to 6 points of the driving license.

Driving, having ingested drugs or other prohibited substances, may determine the commission of an alleged crime against road safety, or in its case an administrative complaint, sanctioned in the same terms.

In these cases, once the drug screening test for saliva has been carried out, the drivers are obliged to provide a second oral fluid sample for referral to an accredited laboratory and to check the provisional result, in accordance with current regulations.

In all cases, the affected vehicles are immobilized by the Civil Guard until their drivers are able to continue their journey, once they have lowered the level of alcohol within the permitted limits or the presence of drugs has disappeared, or , other drivers who are authorized and take the appropriate tests are responsible for the vehicles.

The Civil Guard reiterates its message to those drivers who recklessly and recklessly, despite the campaigns and warnings of the General Directorate of Traffic, drive after having drunk or taken drugs, remembering that they will continue to intensify the realization of the controls any time of the day or night, to avoid personal losses and the unfortunate consequences of traffic accidents, especially during the weekends and forthcoming festivities of the Virgen del Pilar and Todos los Santos, which represent a considerable increase in short-term trips derived from leisure activities, which increase the risk due to the special circumstances in which they occur, appealing to the use of collective means of transport or alternative formulas for these trips that are not to be put behind the wheel in these conditions, especially part of the younger drivers.
