The Polytechnic of Cartagena multiplied by twelve its Chinese students in official degrees (22/09/2018)

The opening of the UPCT to the Far East has already paid off.

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) began a year and a half ago to offer their studies in China and for this course 47 students of the Asian giant have already been enrolled.

The figure could be increased, since the inscription in the official titles of the Polytechnic is open.

Most of the Asians, who are already in the UPCT classrooms, are going to take masters from the Faculty of Business Sciences, both the MBA in Spanish and the one to be taught in English, as well as Tourism and Accounting and also postgraduate courses in Architecture and Telecommunications schools.

Another large group of 17 Chinese will study the fourth year of the degree in Business Administration and Management (ADE), which is also taught in bilingual mode.

They do it virtue to a double degree agreement with the Energy University of Hebei, near Beijing, whereby Asian students will be part of their university education in the UPCT.

"Chinese students are looking abroad for official studies that are recognized in their country," explains Beatriz Marín, head of the International Relations Service of the UPCT, whose staff has visited some 40 Chinese universities.

He has also contacted Korean and Singaporean centers.

The first results came already last year, in which four Asians have completed master's degrees.

One of them is Kaiyi Wu, who is finalizing his Master's Final Project before returning to his country.

"I love Cartagena, it's very quiet and comfortable," says the young woman from South China, who has completed a TFM on Chinese-Spanish business cooperation and worked in a livestock business.

"Studying in Spain is an added value, because Spanish has more potential in China than English, which is already spoken by almost all young people," explains Wu.

"Compared to other countries, studying here is cheaper," he says.

Another important contingent of international students who are going to take official courses this year at the UPCT are the Dominicans, since 18 students from the Dominican Republic have started masters from the Polytechnic with scholarships from their government.

In total, the course has started in the UPCT 254 international students, coming from various European and Ibero-American countries, as well as from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, India and China.

The Polytechnic also expects to receive in the next semester an important number of foreign students, among them numerous Indians who will carry out specific training programs in Architecture, Business and Telecommunications.
