The new mayor of the socialist group, Mercedes García, is already part of the municipal government (21/09/2018)

"I like the possibilities offered by politics to do things for the people, for the citizens, to carry forward some ideas in which you believe and for which you are fighting," said the new mayor of the socialist municipal group, Mercedes García, what it has meant for her to take possession of the position she now holds, in the extraordinary plenary session that was held this Friday, September 21, in the Plenary Hall of the Consistorial Palace.

García, who has promised his position before the rest of the corporation, replaces Obdulia Gómez, who, during the extraordinary plenary session held on September 10, resigned her councilor's act to assume new responsibilities in the Government Delegation in the Region of Murcia, as director of the Functional Area of Agriculture and Fisheries.

Mercedes García Gómez, born in 1950, is a retired teacher, who has practiced her profession for 43 years in private and public centers in Cartagena, ending her professional career as director of the Gabriela Mistral school.

But as he said "politics is my 'spine' stuck, and is that besides being a teacher, which is my vocation, I always wanted to study political science, I like political life a lot." To which he added that "I like the challenges, and now I face one of immense dimensions, with great enthusiasm, great strength and a great capacity for work

García knows the political terrain well, as he was responsible for the Education area of the PSOE between 2013 and 2015, member of the Neighborhood Board of El Algar since its creation until 2015 and, for eight years, member of the Board of Directors of the Neighborhood Association from Cabo de Palos.

The new mayor of the municipal government has acknowledged that she knows that it is an "arduous and difficult" task that she now faces.

He added that "sometimes it will not be pleasant but in spite of everything I feel strong, encouraged, because I know that I will work with a great team of colleagues who have demonstrated a great capacity and convinced that this union will allow us to advance more" .

With regard to the months ahead to undertake their political work-in total, it will be about seven months until the end of the current term of office- García said that "it is a pity that it is so little time, but that it will be a busy few months of many work, which does not scare me at all because despite being retired 7 years I have never stopped working, nor active life. "

And it is that the activities of Mercedes García also highlights its work in the cultural field of the municipality, as a founding member of the Sociocultural Association Theater Circus Apollo and its first Board of Directors with the position of Secretary (2010-2013), as well as president of the Sociocultural Association Teatro Circo Apolo and director of the Compañía Teatro Circo Apolo since its creation in 2013 to the present.
