A student of the UPCT, bronze medal in the European Championship of Nations of Dragon Boat (03/09/2018)

The student of the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering (ETSII) of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Leanne Miller has participated in the European Championship of Nations DragonBoat that has been held during the days 23, 24 and 25 August 2018 in Germany as a member of the National Dragon Boat Team.

Along with the rest of the members of the national team of Dragon Boat, the student of the ETSII of the UPCT Leanne Miller has achieved the third place in the tests of 2,000 meters, accessing the podium that has brought together the elite of the sport in all Europe.

This student has also achieved fourth place in the categories of 500 meters and 200 meters in this edition of the European Championship along with the rest of the National Team of Dragon Boat, resulting in the latter case just one second of the third place.

Leanne Miller is also part of the canoeing team of the Nautical Club of Santa Lucía (Cartagena) and the canoeing team of C1 of the UPCT.

In fact, this weekend has also participated in the Spanish Canoeing Championship along with the team of the Nautical Club of Santa Lucia.

"I am very happy to have been able to get the bronze medal in the European canoeing championship that we have just played in Germany together with my teammates in Spain, because it has cost us a lot of effort and it has been an unparalleled experience", explains Leanne Miller, student of the Master's degree in Industrial Engineering that is taught at the UPCT Industrial School.

This weekend he has also participated in the Spanish Canoeing Championship together with the canoeing team of the Santa Lucía Nautical Club, and has won two other bronze medals, in mixed and female modality, in distances of 500 meters.

Leanne Miller has completed the last year the degree in Industrial Technology Engineering, and is currently studying the first course of the Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering that is taught at the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering (ETSII) of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.

"We are very proud to have brilliant students who are excellent athletes and ultimately represent our university in different sports championships as is the case of Leanne," says the director of the School of Industrial UPCT, Patricio Franco.

"We must highlight the enormous dedication required to be able to combine the practice of a sport at the highest level with the overcoming of university careers as demanding as those taught at the School of Industrial UPCT, so we give doubly congratulations to our student Leanne Miller for having achieved an important award such as the bronze medal in the European championship along with the rest of her teammates from the Dragon Boat National Team, "adds Patricio Franco.

This new victory of a student of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) in sports competitions at the highest level, shows that the UPCT stands out among universities that are concerned with the promotion of sport, while providing the most demanding university training and with the highest levels of academic quality.
