Citizens start several agreements to improve the collection, treatment and recycling of waste in Cartagena (30/08/2018)

Cartagena, Thursday, August 30.

The Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena has presented and defended today in the ordinary plenary session of the City Council fourteen initiatives.

Plan to prepare the future of El Gorguel landfill

The Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena has defended a motion, which has been supported by PP, PSOE and Cs, has counted on the abstention of MC and with the vote against CTSSP-Podemos, for the Plenary to urge the local Government to send to the General Directorate of the Environment the list of needs of the municipal landfill located in El Gorguel, as well as the investments made in previous years and the planned investments, in order to elaborate a global work plan that improves the efficiency and the capacity of the landfill and to be eligible for regional subsidies and those offered by the European Union through ERDF funds for those plants that meet the selection criteria of the European Union.

During the plenary session, the spokesperson for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, explained that on July 27 he met with the head of plant services, Antonio Fernandez, and was able to collect some of the main needs of the landfill, including the necessary increase of personnel for the maintenance of the treatment machines, the modernization of the facilities to improve the separation of waste, the increase in the percentage of rejects, the optimization of the separation of waste and the streamlining of the project of extension of the facilities so that it extends the operation of the landfill 7 years.

Faced with the accusations of the spokesmen of the populist coalition PODEMOS-MC, that the orange formation would be working in collusion with the FCC company, the orange spokesman recalled that "at the beginning of the legislature, our Group was the only one that supported together with CTSSP, a motion to conduct a general external audit for the concessionaires of the City Council, and MC refused to ask for it and during his two long years in office he was unable to supervise the companies, nor to improve the service, on the contrary, they managed to make it worse, But of course, when you return to the opposition after your executive failure, you lose your memory, a boast (another) of political hypocrisy and administrative incompetence. "

Regulatory development of the Animal Law

The spokesman of Cs Cartagena has presented an initiative to transfer to the Government of the Autonomous Community the urgent need to implement as soon as possible the regulatory development of Law 6/2017 of November 8, Protection and Defense of Animals of Company approved in the Assembly in the month of November of 2017. The motion has been supported by all the municipal groups.

Manuel Padín has said that "taking into account the paralysis in which is the Animal Welfare Bureau of the City of Cartagena, without calling since March 2017, also knowing the short time remaining in the legislature, and still not knowing the regulatory development of the regional law will be approved, in Ciudadanos we understand that it is imperative and urgent the development of the law to advance animal welfare ".

Accessibility in Cartagena

The orange training has claimed through a proposal that will be constituted once the Technical Office of Accessibility contemplated in the Regulatory Ordinance of Universal Accessibility for the municipality of Cartagena, at least before the end of the year.

Manuel Padín has also proposed that, through this office, a study be drawn up that includes, among other things, the adaptation needs of containers for people with disabilities in the municipality and that the adapted containers be installed in a gradual manner in accordance with the existing needs and as long as the budget allows.

The initiative has had the support of all the municipal groups.

"In some Spanish cities such as Elche, Cáceres, or San Sebastián de los Reyes, containers have been installed at the initiative of Citizens that do comply with the legislation on accessibility and that have all the requirements that make them suitable for use by these collectives, have the opening at a lower height and have an identification in Braille so that the blind can recognize the different types of collection systems, "explained the spokesman of Cs.

Recycling through incentives

Cs has also requested that recycling be promoted among the residents of Cartagena through the installation of incentive recycling machines.

The orange training has proposed that this system could be initiated through a pilot test by installing two machines in the municipality.

The proposal has had the support of all municipal groups, except CTSSP-Podemos that has voted against.

The spokesman for Citizens has pointed out that "reverse vending or selective collection involves the installation of a series of machines that, in exchange for depositing plastic, metal or bricks, get incentives such as discount vouchers to spend in businesses that collaborate with the municipality, so we could also promote consumption in our small businesses ".

Raise awareness about Posidonia

Citizens has defended in the Plenary a motion, which has been approved unanimously, to design an environmental awareness plan on the oceanic posidonia, including, the holding of informative talks periodically in the schools of the municipality, the preparation and disposal of informative signage in Cartagena's beaches to inform users of the need to care for and protect posidonia and initiate the procedures for the drafting of a municipal protocol for the correct treatment, use and final destination of the arribazones.
