In this sense, the collaboration of the hospitality sector, which generates almost 50% of glass packaging waste, is key.

Reason why Ecovidrio develops this campaign.

DATA OF RECYCLING OF GLASS IN CARTAGENA

According to the latest data for 2017, the citizens of Cartagena recycled a total of 2,994,320 kilograms of glass, which means that each inhabitant recycles an average of 14.0 kg.

Regarding the rate of containerization, Cartagena is located with an average of 204 inhabitants per container, currently with a total of 1,050 igloos for glass packaging waste installed.

Aware that care for the environment is a factor that gains positions in citizens' habits, Ecovidrio has carried out a study to analyze the concern of Murcians about sustainability and their preferences when it comes to enjoying summer plans.

The survey reveals that for more than 90% of the inhabitants of the region, the absence of waste in water and sand is the determining factor for going to the beach.

The occupation level is the second most important characteristic for 69.2% of the citizens, the security services and the rescue equipment is the third attribute for 60.1%, followed by the quality of the sand for the 58 , 8% and accessibility for 50.1% of Murcia.

In relation to the iconic beach bars, respect for the environment -correct recycling of waste, responsible use of resources, integration with the environment, etc.- is the third aspect most valued by Murcia, behind the hygiene of the establishment and above the good prices.

20 YEARS RECYCLING GLASS CONTAINERS

The origins of the recycling of glass containers go back to the decade of the 80s with the arrival of the first containers in Madrid and Barcelona in 1982. After the approval of the packaging and packaging waste in 1997 and the start of operations in 1998 , Ecovidrio became the managing entity of a recycling model that guarantees a public, professional service and to which all citizens have access.

The recycling of glass containers is a fundamental element to contribute to sustainable development in accordance with the principles of circular economy.

In these two decades of public-private collaboration, the kilogram per inhabitant of packaging waste collected in the Region of Murcia has almost tripled, from about 6 kilograms per person in 1998 to 16.9 kilograms per inhabitant. nowadays.

Ecovidrio is the non-profit organization in charge of the management of glass packaging waste recycling.

8,000 packaging companies make it possible, with their contribution through the green dot, the recycling system.
