On August 2, 1906, the transatlantic Sirius departed from Genoa with about 900 people on board to Brazil and Argentina.

When they sailed off the coast of Cabo de Palos, the transatlantic crashed into the Bajo de Fuera, producing the greatest tragedy in the history of civil navigation on Spanish coasts.

This event is still alive in the collective memory of Cabo de Palos.

In part, because of the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Also by the characteristics of the ship, which combined the luxury of first with the overcrowding of emigrants in the cellar.

But, above all, because of the heroic behavior of the people of Cabo de Palos, who turned to the rescue of the victims.

The presentation of the work has been carried out by the councilor in charge of the area of Public Function and Citizen Participation, Juan Pedro Torralba;

who has been accompanied by the scriptwriter and director of the work, Elvira Carralero;

and the president of the Association of Mujeres Virgen del Mar, Isabel Belmonte.

The mayor Juan Pedro Torralba has indicated that the Consistory has collaborated with the means at its disposal with infrastructures of sound, lighting and chairs, which this second year have been increased given the success of the last edition.

On the other hand, Isabel Belmonte highlighted the work of the actors of the show and thanked the participation of the Women's Association.

Finally, Elvira Carralero has indicated that La Nave del Miedo is built around three main axes: history, highlighting the circumstances in which this tragedy occurred;

the sociological theme with the phenomenon of immigration, which was then carried out by Europeans who emigrated to America;

and the psychological aspect with fear, because although many died due to the impact of the ship, many others made it victims of terror.
