From the Department of Equality of the City of Cartagena has designed for this year 2017-2018 an extensive range of activities scheduled to respond to a diverse and varied demand, which tends to increase every year.
The program has been divided into three major areas of work such as educational programs, the School of Empowerment and training workshops.
The mayor and head of the area of ​​Equality, Ana Belén Castejón, stressed that the content of these programs "has the common goal of bringing the citizens of Cartagena to values ​​of inclusion, respect and tolerance, in a way that contributes to the construction of a more egalitarian society and with higher levels of well-being ".
Within the educational programs, interventions have been carried out in Infant, Primary and Secondary Education, with 'La Mochila Viajera', Storytelling and Workshops such as Corresponsabilidad, or Non-Sexist Toys, reaching nearly 4,000 students in 14 educational centers of the municipality.
On the other hand, the team that develops the program 'If you feel drowned is not love', which works to detect and prevent gender violence among young people and promote values ​​of equality, respect and inclusion, has reached 4,500 students in Secondary education, in a total of 13 centers.
Through workshops such as 'Healthy Amores', the 'Equal Man', 'Somos Diversxs' or the innovative intervention 'Youtubers for Equality', a team of professionals has promoted in these young people the critical mentality, the ability to consciously choose, Respect for difference and the tools to recognize behaviors and situations that may lead to violent attitudes.
In the same vein, the 'Emotionally intelligent' tallleres have provided our young people with the necessary tools to recognize and manage their emotions.
"We are very proud of the success that the educational programs are having and of the very good reception that this course has had both on the part of the teachers, as well as of the students and their families," said Castejón.
The School of Empowerment 'MIRATE' has worked different workshops and activities emphasizing among others, some referred to the health and the care, like the 'Workshop of the Emotional I', the one of 'Hypopressives and pelvic floor', or 'How to prepare our own vegetable milks'.
It has also brought women closer to craft skills through workshops such as 'Masterchef', 'Floral Art' and 'Mandalas'.
Likewise, initiatives such as guided tours of Cartagena and Comarca, and the innovative workshops of 'Defensa Personal' and 'Trabajo en este este de Teatro' have been very successful.
"From the Department of Equality we consider a priority the development of skills for empowerment, both through associationism and indicidual way, enabling women to boost their skills and it is also a tool for social transformation," said the mayor .
All these courses and activities have been developed both in the own council and in the different headquarters of the Associations of women of the districts and councils, thanks to what has been able to reach more than 400 women, sequentially quarterly so that the format has been agile and attractive for users, with short and varied activities and the possibility of participating in more than one.
We can not forget the activities of the program 'With your hands', in which about 150 women learned artistic techniques such as Textile Painting, Patchwork or Upholstery, among others.
Furniture Restoration also occupies a large space in the training these women receive, with three workshops at different times, which allows them to reach as many users as possible.
