'Luz y Ironía' brings together the works of five of the best contemporary Danish artists (19/07/2018)

La Mar de Arte, artistic section of the La Mar de Músicas Festival, offers Cartagena's and its visitors the opportunity to get to know the works of five of the best contemporary Danish artists.

'Luz e Ironía' is an unpublished exhibition in Spain, and can be visited in the exhibition hall of the Consistorial Palace of Cartagena, until August 31.

The presentation of this collective exhibition of contemporary artists, took place this Thursday, July 19.

In the event the Councilor for Culture, David Martínez, appeared before the media;

next to one of the curators of the exhibition, the gallery owner of T20, Nacho Ruiz.

"We have here a retrospective of Danish art.

It is an unpublished project in Spain, with large pieces created thickly for this space, which have brought together works by five of the most renowned Danish artists, "explained the mayor of the Culture area.

'Luz e Ironía' exhibits a selection of works by: Arger Jorn, Per Kirkeby, Olafur Eliasson, Elmgreen & Dragset and Troels Carlsen.

Martínez also commented that the exhibition is a selection of "very powerful" works that through painting, drawing, photography or sculpture "will not leave anyone indifferent".

'Luz e Ironía' is a reflection of Danish artistic evolution for almost a century, providing a historical perspective of its most innovative creations.

For his part, the gallery owner Nacho Ruiz, has contributed the most significant data of this exhibition.

Ruiz also added that the show that can be seen in La Mar de Músicas "is the most important sample of contemporary art that has been exhibited in the Region of Murcia this year."

The exhibition will also serve as a posthumous tribute to the recently deceased Per Kirkeby, multifaceted artist, painter, sculptor, poet, novelist, filmmaker and designer of set design and costumes.

Kirkeby is known for his works related to Fluxux and artists such as Joseph Beuys, before becoming famous for his opaque and semi-abstract canvases, reminiscent of geological strata.

You can also see works by the artist Arger Jorn, one of the founders of the legendary GrupoCoBra (Copenhagen acronym, Brussels and Amstedam), composed of other artists such as Appel, Dotremont, Noiret, Constant and Corneille, all of them pioneers in the research of processes of collective creation, from the Scandinavian tradition, but also towards Klee or Picasso.

The exhibition also exhibits works by Olafur Eliasson, known for his sculptures and large format installations such as 'The Weather Project'.

The duo of artists Elmgreen & Dragset, among the themes they usually address, and possibly the one that structures their artistic expression, is homosexuality, contemplated not only from activism but from criticism and sarcasm.

And finally, the fifth of the artists that can be seen in the Town Hall is Troels Carlsen.

The artist works on ancient books of anatomy and botany, to intervene on them and create a unique and disturbing universe in which the protagonism is taken by the animal side of the human being.
