The Sea of Music, against the machista aggressions (18/07/2018)

The music made by women has always had a prominent role in La Mar de Músicas, and for years the festival has been betting on the presence of bands led by women in its programming;

this year, forty percent.

The commitment of La Mar de Músicas with equality goes further in this edition in which specific measures have been put in place to prevent and act against sexual harassment and aggression.

The mayor of Cartagena and councilor for equality, Ana Belén Castejón, has emphasized this issue during the breakfast information on La Mar de Músicas that took place on Wednesday, which also announced the visit of the Minister of Culture, José Guirao , to attend the opening of the festival.

The mayor of Culture, David Martínez, and the director of La Mar de Músicas, Paco Martín, participated in the informative event.

For the first time, La Mar de Músicas has a series of specific measures against sexual violence based on similar actions that have already been successfully implemented in events of similar magnitude.

As the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, pointed out, "both for the organization and for this City Council, it is essential that the spaces in which the festival takes place be free of situations of this type, because we are all very clear that what it's about that each and every one of the people who attend can freely enjoy the music ".

That is why the Sea of Music is collaborating with the Department of Equality in the development of the 'Protocol of prevention and action against sexual assault in leisure spaces of the municipality of Cartagena', which will help organizers, workers and volunteers of Any event that takes place in this city to give an adequate, rapid and effective response in case of harassment or aggression, according to the first mayor.

The measures adopted so far will be made visible during the festival with the installation of a 'Violet Point', in which there will be volunteers and Equality personnel who will inform about what sexual violence is and how to act in the face of aggression.

"This violet point is going to be mounted in the most multitudinous concert of the festival, 'La bar libre de la Mar', which every year brings together more than 10,000 people," remarked Castejón.

Likewise, both volunteers and security personnel and the rest of La Mar de Músicas workers have received adequate training from the Equality technicians to detect possible cases of violence and know how to act in these cases.

All the people who will work in the festival will receive instructions on the protocol of action.

On the other hand, during the eight days in which the concerts will take place, La Mar de Músicas will use the festival's social networks and the stage screens to broadcast messages rejecting gender violence and a special signaling at key points of the festival. festival.

To conclude, the municipal councilor has asked for citizen collaboration to detect and eradicate behaviors of this nature, "we want to appeal to the public and festival attendees so that if they witness any case of harassment, they should contact any member of the team of the Sea of Music immediately, "said Castejón.

SUSTAINABILITY MEASURES

Another of the novelties presented by the festival in its twenty-fourth edition is the inclusion of sustainability measures.

Among the actions that will be launched this year - it is a plan to be developed in phases - highlights the use of recycled materials in the dissemination of La Mar de Músicas, where all the programming and posters have been printed on paper 100% recycled, without chlorine and respectful with the environment.

Recycling is another of the points of the sustainability plan of the festival, so "the glasses will be reusable and they have been given a symbolic price of 1 euro, which will be returned to the users once they deliver the glass", has affirmed the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón.

To facilitate recycling, the Mar de Músicas will collaborate with Ecoembes and Ecovidrio that will install selective collection containers.

Another measure of sustainability in this edition is going to create an online community of travelers to share cars on their trips to the festival and thus substantially reduce CO2 emissions.

"In addition, the organization will use efficient vehicles for the movements of the artists who will perform at the festival," the first mayor has specified.

In the same way, the festival will compensate CO2 emissions in Cartagena with the planting of trees of native species.

VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF CULTURE
