Cartagena welcomes 22 children in the Chernobyl-affected areas in summer (18/07/2018)

A group of 22 children from Belarus, specifically from areas near the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, will spend this summer in Cartagena with host families.

Children can enjoy a healthy environment, thanks to the initiative organized by the Association of Families in Solidarity with the Belarusian People.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, received this Wednesday, July 18, at the Town Hall the group of children and the families that welcome them.

There he has dedicated a few words to them and they have been presented with a souvenir of their visit.

Ana Belén Castejón explained that this project has been carried out in the city for 8 years.

The mayor added that it is "a pleasure" to receive these children for another year, and she has recognized the work of the association and of the families, whom she thanked for their work and solidarity.

Likewise, the delegate for Cartagena of the Ong Families in Solidarity with the Belarusian People, Juan Carlos Sánchez, explained that the children come from the two regions most affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Sanchéz also explained that the process of selecting children is done by traveling to Belarus, where they carry out a selection process after knowing the situation of each child.

It should be noted that the two-month stay helps these children, who are from the areas affected by the cloud from the nuclear disaster in the Ukrainian city of Chernobyl, to reduce radioactivity levels and improve their health problems. .
