The Spanish Armada has commemorated this Monday, July 16, the feast of its patron saint the Virgen del Carmen, with various events in the Arsenal of Cartagena as well as throughout Spain and ships and units deployed abroad.

The activities, which have been held in Cartagena, have begun with the celebration of a Mass in honor of the Virgen del Carmen.

Immediately afterwards, the homage has been paid to those who gave their lives for Spain and those who died at sea, the merchant marine, fishing, scientific and recreational.

And then, there was a ceremony for the imposition of decorations and a tribute to the personnel of the Navy that has recently passed into the reserve situation.

The parade of the Force has put an end to this commemorative event, which was presided over by the Admiral of the Military Arsenal of Cartagena, Vice Admiral Manuel de la Puente, and attended by the Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, as well as the main civil authorities and the military of the city and the representatives of the fishing, merchant and sports marinas, with whom the Navy shares the Virgin of Carmen as patron saint.

Vice Admiral Manuel de la Puente, in his speech, has reviewed the most prominent actions that the Navy has carried out in the city this year, including actions against piracy, the collaboration provided in the arrival of immigrant vessels, as well as the cooperation in the recovery of wrecks and the help provided in the incident of the plane of the Balearic Islands.
