UPCT professors win a national award for conciliation by promoting practices to improve the professional career of female engineers (02/07/2018)

The professors of the Faculty of Business Sciences of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, María Eugenia Sánchez, Isabel Olmedo, Camino Ramón, Antonia Madrid, Inocencia Martínez, Ignacio Segado and David Cegarra, have won the national prize Alares a la Conciliación de la Personal, Family and Work Life and Social Responsibility in the Research and Development modality.

The award recognizes the dissemination of a study that researchers have developed on reconciliation as an instrument of social inclusion of women engineers and in which it is shown that in the world of engineering there is also inequality between men and women.

"With this project, we hope that UPCT engineering graduates will eventually develop professionally in equal opportunities than men, reducing their conflict of roles, increasing their life satisfaction and developing all their professional potential" says Professor María Eugenia Sánchez.

This research project has allowed them to know what happens in the professional career of female engineers and how work-life balance is one of the most important tools to improve equal opportunities for women working as engineers.

According to researcher David Cegarra, through this study it is reflected that inequality is not a matter of professional category and good practices are promoted so that engineers improve their professional career.

The awarded project 'Female Engineer' corresponds to the phase aimed at the transfer of knowledge obtained.

"We are convinced that the knowledge derived from research can really contribute directly to create a culture of conciliation that helps to improve equality in the professional field of engineering and at the same time contributes to improve the competitive capacity of the business sector," says María Eugenia Sánchez Vidal, who is the main researcher of the project.

The members of the team have developed an informative guide with the main results of the project so that any person, company or organization can access the knowledge generated in the project.

In addition, they have created three informative videos where the most important ideas are exposed.
