Cartagena Port of Cultures expands the schedules of museums and interpretation centers in summer (28/06/2018)

During the months of July, August and the first half of September, Cartagena Puerto de Culturas has proposed an intense program to live the summer in a different way, where a story will be known every day.

In the summer period, museums and interpretation centers extend their hours, in days and hours, to have more opportunity to visit them.

From July 1 to September 15, the Castillo de la Concepción, Panoramic Elevator, Barrio del Foro Romano, Punic Wall and Refugio Civil War Museum will open from Monday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., extending a more days a week and one hour more daily than usual.

The Tourist Boat will also open every day of the week incorporating one more trip being the last one at 7:30 p.m.

The Christmas Fort extends its visiting hours in the afternoon, until 7:30 p.m.

As a novelty, this year the Casa de la Fortuna will have a special schedule from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., extending daily its usual opening hours this season, and Sundays 10:30 a.m. to 15 p.m .: 30 hours.

For the high summer season, in addition to expanding the opening hours of the museums, a full schedule of activities, both day and night, has been launched, as well as the guided tours, conducted by official guides to accompany tourists through the emblematic places of the city and will explain the museums and interpretation centers with a thread as if they were chapters, and that will begin next week, starting on Monday, July 2.

MONDAY

On Mondays, the Great Conquests and Battles that have happened in Cartagena will take place and mark a change of period in world history.

Such is the case of the confrontation between Carthaginians and Romans that will be explained in the Punic Wall, the reconquest with the act of war between Moors and Christians that will be seen in the Castillo de la Concepción, together with the transformation of the medieval city.

From the castle, through the Panoramic Elevator, we will arrive at the Refugio de la Guerra Civil Museum, the biggest conflict of the XX silo.

TUESDAY

On Tuesdays it will be the turn to Leisure and Pleasure, Blood and Sand, a route that includes the exhibition of the Gladiators, gods of the sand in the Punic Wall.

Epigraphs, swords, helmets, shields and reconstruction of gladiatorial environments will be the beginning of this route that will take the assistants to the Casa de la Fortuna, a Roman house decorated with paintings and mosaics from the 1st century AD Finally, you will reach the Forum Neighborhood , a deposit of about 3,000 m², where the Baths are conserved, a spectacular Banquet Building and the Sanctuary of Isis.

WEDNESDAY

On Wednesdays the Cartagena will have a marine appointment with the route Isaac Peral, the Inventor and Mar. This route begins with a ride on the Tourist Boat that will guide you to Fort Christmas, a fortress of the nineteenth century, from where you will know a splendid defensive system , we will finish our tour through the bay of Cartagena to reach the Isaac Peral Room, where the greatest of his inventions is found: The Peral Submarine.

THURSDAY

On Thursdays the Citizens of an Empire route will be developed.

Being a citizen of Rome and living in Carthago Nova was a privilege for the wealth of the mines and for its natural harbor, where the trade routes were one of the most important in the whole Mediterranean.

So on this route you will visit the Roman Theater, the Baths and Temple of Isis.

Undoubtedly the most prominent public and religious buildings of Carthago Nova.

The route will end at Casa de la Fortuna, where the most intimate and private part will be known, its religion, customs, fashion and rituals of a citizen of the Empire.

FRIDAY

Fridays have been programmed this summer as a novelty Pan and Circus: gladiators, hot springs and theaters.

This is an interesting route that will surprise you by how the great gladiator shows were used as propaganda and political tools, how the Theater and the arts influenced society and how, the moment of meeting in the Hot Springs was decisive in the negotiations commercial and policies in antiquity.
