The mayor urges the CARM to approve the transitory urban regulations (21/06/2018)

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has urged the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia (CARM) to urgently approve the Transitory Urban Regulations in the municipality.

The requirement has been formulated by Castejón in the General Assembly of the Confederation of Business Organizations of Cartagena and District (COEC) that has been held this afternoon in Cartagena and attended by the president of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras;

the president of COEC, Pedro Pablo Hernández;

and the President of CROEM, José María Albarracín.

There the councilor has indicated that the industrial and residential growth of the municipality is still pending that the promise that the regional government made a few months ago with respect to the immediate approval of these transitory rules is fulfilled.

"That is already a few months ago and we are still waiting for a transcendental question for the future of our municipality," said the mayor, while he recalled that the City Council "did his duties quickly" and that now the resolution depends on the regional government.

Castejón has been contrary to the regional president's claim that the allegations submitted to the Transitory Rules be discussed at a technical panel formed by the City Council and Autonomous Community, "when the only responsibility on this issue is the regional government, which is the competent to process them and approve this document ".

In this regard the mayor has said that it will not allow the regional government "transfer responsibility and generate new delays in the approval of this tool so necessary for Cartagena City Council when it is the responsibility of the regional government."

Also, he said that since the Consistory has already taken out to contract the Advisory and Drafting Service documents of the progress of the General Urban Plan, "we hope to have hired in the coming weeks," he added.

RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURES

The mayor has addressed the Cartagena entrepreneurs and has indicated that there are fundamental issues such as the Mediterranean Corridor, the arrival of the AVE, the construction of the Logistics Activities Zone and the development of the industrial area of Los Camachos that must be addressed.

The planning and execution of transport infrastructures are a basic pillar for the development of the municipality, explained Castejón, who has also stressed that Cartagena has enormous economic potential, but drags a deficit in infrastructure that needs to be resolved.

In addition, the mayor has highlighted the need for Cartagena businessmen can transit to any point in the region, Spain and Europe with all the facilities to improve their growth and internationalization.

From the City Council, work is being done to get the AVE to Cartagena with the best layout and in the shortest time possible, he added.

The mayor has emphasized the importance of dialogue with businessmen and neighbors, and therefore, added "we were not willing to accept the alternative imposed by the Autonomous Community and the previous national government, as it did not take into account the petitions of the neighbors of Cartagena ".

The alternative proposed by the City Council does not divide the municipality in two;

includes a stop very close to the ZAL, which would benefit the companies of the Los Camachos polygon;

and reduces the areas where the train must go underground.

The mayor has anticipated that the predisposition of the new Minister of Development, José Luis Ábalos and the new Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Pedro Saura, is absolute;

and that the Technical Commission of the Cartagena High Speed Society will soon be convened.

AGRICULTURAL SECTOR

Ana Belén Castejón has not forgotten the agricultural sector, and has indicated that this sector needs certainties to continue being one of the driving forces of the economy of Cartagena and the region.

The mayor has referred to the Tajo-Segura transfer, which together with the improvement in the efficiency of the desalination plants, will guarantee the agricultural sector the assurance that the water will reach their fields.

Castejón has said that the fact that the Region of Murcia and the region of Cartagena need water is not an ideological issue but a reality.

"Only if we abandon all the temptation to use this basic good as an electoral weapon, the principle of the solution will be closer," said the mayor.

THE PROBLEMATIC OF MAR MENOR

The mayor has finished his speech with a special mention to the Mar Menor, and stressed the importance of its recovery for the local economy and the environment.

"In the same way that I asked President Rajoy for the need to put in place a Special Plan for the regeneration of the salt lake, I am going to ask President Pedro Sánchez, hoping to have a more positive response," said the mayor. .

Finally, he pointed out that we live in a very crucial moment, in which the present decisions will mark the future in the short and long term;

and he has invited the members of COEC to "walk together so that the decisions are the best for Cartagena".
