NAVANTIA launches a 'Welding School' (21/06/2018)

The NAVANTIA factory in Cartagena has launched an initiative, called 'School of Welding', whose objective is to train and standardize Welding to students of Vocational Training in Welding and Boilermaking, mainly.

In the first edition of this School, which closed last Friday, June 15, 14 students from the Polytechnic Institute of Vocational Training and the Salesianos school, both from Cartagena, have obtained their diplomas.

The 'School of Welding' is created with the idea of offering students the possibility of improving their training in Welding, with the ultimate goal of obtaining their approval and have more opportunities to access the labor market.

In fact, they all come out with a job in companies related to shipbuilding, to which NAVANTIA dedicates its activity.

The course has been extended over 400 hours of specialized training, eminently practical, and it is expected that in the coming months the second edition of the School will be launched.

The training has been given by highly qualified NAVANTIA welders, taking advantage of their Know-How in a trade with as many requirements and restrictions as welding in Submarines.

In this sense, it is worth mentioning the work carried out from Shipyard Production, as well as Human Resources, at the time not only to launch and develop this initiative, but also to guarantee future editions of the School.

This initiative seeks to promote the employability of students and provide them with tools and strategies that favor their professional development, through contact with highly qualified companies and professionals.

In this way, students can face a changing labor market that is demanding at the same time.

The Polytechnic Institute considers that "the fact that these students can perform their FCT in NAVANTIA is a great benefit both for teaching and for the development of the productive system of our Region." Among the many advantages that this agreement provides, we can highlight the homologation of highly qualified welders for shipbuilding, especially of submarines, through real, updated and motivating learning ".

He adds that "the course favors the training of highly qualified young professionals who see a field of work in which to develop their skills within the Region, thus avoiding that, once trained, they have to go to other regions and even abroad Another advantage offered by this course is that it provides students with the possibility to access to meet the needs of a market that requires a very high qualification.

For the Salesianos school, "the alliances with the companies of our environment has always been a priority in our center objectives, as it could not be otherwise in a teaching related to the professional insertion of our students", which is why " We hope that this experience between the company NAVANTIA and Salesianos Cartagena will be fruitful for both of us and that our students will be able to improve their curriculum with this initiative from the Cartagena factory ".
