The regional deputy of Citizens, Luis Fernandez, the spokesman of the Municipal Group of Cartagena, Manuel Padín and the mayor Ana Rama, have moved to the Valley of Escombreras after having knowledge through the vocal of the orange formation in the area of Alumbres , María Isabel Martínez, that a breakdown in a pipeline at the Repsol refinery in Cartagena had generated a large column of yellowish smoke, described as "non-toxic" by the people in charge of the factory.

The councilors have been interested in the status of people who have been treated for minor effects for the medical services of the industrial complex.

Citizens has requested that an information file be opened by the regional government to clarify what happened and establish whether the protocols for action in such an incident have been complied with or must be reviewed and the City Council the call of the Municipal Air Quality Board to convey the information received.

The orange party has been able to talk to the neighbors, the emergency services and the agents of an environmental security checkpoint to know how the events had developed, and whether the municipal and regional response had been satisfactory.

For the spokesperson of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, "now the most important thing is to reassure the population and offer reliable and sufficient information of what has happened, then it will be time to analyze if the response protocol has been correct and if it is necessary to review the External Emergency Plan of the Chemical Sector of the Valley of Escombreras and verify its correct application ".

"For us, in these cases, information plays a key role, the actors involved in these incidents (administration, emergencies, workers and neighbors) must be very clear about the contents of the emergency plan," explained the local spokesperson for Cs. .

For Manuel Padín, "it is the lack of immediate information before an event that generates a logical concern in the population of Alumbres, in our opinion we do not have to generate an unnecessary alarm but we must not sit idly by, so we consider that open by the regional administration an information file to clarify today's facts, establish whether the preventive and information protocols have been met, if they should be updated and revised or if the internal and external alarm should sound, among other things " .
