The film section of La Mar de Músicas will screen documentaries about Totó la Momposina, Vinicius de Moraes, Diego el Cigala and Chavela Vargas (07/06/2018)

The Sea of ​​Music began last year, within its section of cinema, with a series of documentary musical films for the mornings of the festival.

The cycle of this edition will be carried out by great works of the history of music such as Vinicius de Moraes, Chavela Vargas, Diego el Cigala and Totó la Momposina, which this year also receives the festival prize.

The cycle will also host the screening of the documentary on the Colombian rhythm of Adriana Lucia "Porro, made in Colombia".

The exhibition will be held at the Nuevo Teatro Circo.

On the same day that Toto la Momposina will receive the festival prize, on Monday, July 23, "La Colombiana" by Tony Hardmon will be screened.

The documentary tells the story of the legendary singer, dancer and teacher Totó la Momposina and her struggle to keep alive the traditional music of the Caribbean coast and make it survive generation after generation.

His music combines African and indigenous rhythms with the influences coming from Europe, giving rise to styles such as bagpipes, cumbia, porro, xalupa, sextet and mapalé.

A day later, "Porro made in Colombia" by Adriana Lucia will be screened, where the history of the porro rhythm is told from its origin in the primitive songs and sung Colombian dances, accompanied by palms and drums, through the groups of bagpipes and instruments Africans, until the arrival of instruments from Europe that made a valuable contribution to what is now known as the "Pelayera bands".

This story takes place in the department of Córdoba, Colombia and shows its natural and cultural richness, highlighting the musicality of a region where art and diversity are breathed.

The director Adriana Lucía is a Colombian singer and songwriter.

This is her first film and with it she has won the Audience Award at the Colombian Film Festival in New York.

On Wednesday, July 25, the documentary "El ruiseñor y la noche" by Rubén Rojo Aura will be shown, where Chavela Vargas and Federico García Lorca, two anachronistic creators, are the protagonists.

The life of Vinícius de Moraes, a paradigm of Bohemian and Carioca intellectuals, is told in Miguel Faria Jr's documentary "Vínicius", which will be shown on Thursday, July 26.

The film is structured from their relationships, adding to each phase of their lives many personal stories and songs that are part of the Brazilian collective imagination.

Through various testimonies and the narration of the actor Caco Ciocler, the film brings, in addition to anthological scenes with the portrayed, poems recited by Ricardo Blat and Camila Morgado and songs interpreted especially for this documentary.

Miguel Faría Jr, well-known Brazilian director managed to take 300 thousand spectators to theaters with this documentary and will always be remembered as one of the milestones in the Brazilian documentary.

His latest film is also a documentary about the poet and musician Chico Buarque.

The cycle will end on Friday July 27 with the screening of "Indestructible, the soul of salsa" by David Pareja.

The documentary is a visual journey through the history of salsa, from its beginnings, until Diego 'El Cigala' makes it his own creating a unique and unrepeatable event in the history of music.

Diego 'El Cigala' accompanies the great living myths of salsa on a trip through Colombia, New York, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Madrid, the Dominican Republic or Miami, ready to rumble the metals and drums, and to give the battle once again.
