We can denounce the proliferation of betting places next to educational centers (04/06/2018)

The residents of San Felix and the Santa Ana Industrial Estate have collected signatures from the City Council to inform them about the installation of gambling venues in their neighborhoods, mainly due to the inconvenience caused to neighbors by these types of rooms, and to be to less than 800 meters of schools and centers of studies.

CTSSP proposes measures at local, regional and state level, to prevent the rise of gambling and betting causes problems in the population, especially among young people.

The purple formation will take a motion to the next Plenary where will expose the situation that we live in our country and in our municipality in recent years, in which we have seen an increase in betting houses and an intensification of advertising related to this business. they represent a risk factor for the increase of pathological gambling, as witnessed by official reports and associations of those affected by gambling.

"With this exhibition of the game and the bets what is intended is to sell it to young people and minors so that the activity of the game is normalized, something that can be very dangerous for their training.

In Cartagena there are betting venues right next to educational centers, like the one in front of the Salesianos School in Los Dolores, "says Councilwoman Pilar Marcos.

In the motion presented by the municipal group of Podemos asks the Socialist Government to develop an Ordinance to regulate the licenses of gambling halls and betting venues, ensuring that these are not less than a linear distance of 800 m with regarding School Centers of this municipality, for the problems that this type of premises cause, especially in the most vulnerable population, our young people.

Likewise, they will also request that a Prevention Plan against Lodopathy be prepared, through the PMAD, at the same time arbitrating precise police measures to prevent minors from gambling in these premises.

CTSSP highlights that, with data from June 2017, there were 307 gambling venues in the Region, placing it at the top in the number of betting centers, and warn that these spaces attract very young customers who are unaware of being active that, if not practiced with responsibility, can end up in an addiction.

To conclude, the purple formation considers that it is important that the public administrations address with determination a reality that can lead to a major social problem, and highlight that the legislation on gambling in the Autonomous Community has more than 23 years and, in spite of having been modified subsequently, it has been clearly overcome by the new situation described.
